Today is World Tuberculosis Day. Despite advancements, TB remains a significant challenge for health systems worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, in 2022 alone, 1.3 million people died of TB, with an estimated 10.6 million falling ill with the disease. In Africa, approximately 2.5 million people contracted TB in 2022, and over 400,000 died from it within the same year. Lesotho faces high TB prevalence, often compounded by HIV co-infections. If you experience symptoms resembling TB, it is crucial to immediately seek medical attention for testing and early start of treatment. #EndTB

The ICCM is a strategy that ensures comprehensive and continuous care to under 5 years sick child focusing on the most common diseases: malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and malnutrition. These interventions are curative, preventive and promotive with participation of families and communities. We need to strengthen this strategy and Polyvalent Model is going to be implemented to the Community Health Workers at Village Level. So, Integrated Community Case Management (ICCM) help us to train, support, and supply community health workers (CHW) to provide diagnostic, treatment, and referral services for three common, treatable, and curable childhood illnesses: malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhea.
Did you know? In Rwanda, the leading causes of death for children under the age of five include acute malnutrition and infectious diseases, such as pneumonia, malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV. The inability to get quality healthcare on time is the primary cause. Efficiency and quality of care are critical to saving the lives of children in rural Rwanda. Stay tuned for our latest blog post to see how we’re using technology to address this concern. Never miss a story! Join our email list to stay updated. https://lnkd.in/gixfJFK7

you mentioned that "health is a political choice". But in my opinion health personal life choice. eventhough government advertise different preventive idea for his citizen, it depends on personal dicition to keep him self healthy. for instance I am 3 health problem which I take a drug for all..Hypertantion, Diabetics and pos for my sero_status. Buy I am well and healthy now without any head ache and others I'll, since I keep my self according the rule and regulation of treatment procedures from my doctor. But I am ahealth-assistance in my background. so I say that health is a personal choice.
Health is a political choice. Earlier this week I visited #Brazil for the launch of the national plan to eliminate socially determined diseases, including malaria, Chagas disease, schistosomiasis, syphilis, hepatitis B, HIV. My team and I had a privilege to meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Health Minister Nísia Trindade Lima and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, and to thank them for the strong support to World Health Organization, especially the need for sustainable financing. We are grateful for the government's strong political leadership to ensure #HealthForAll and pandemic preparedness, including the #PandemicAccord, are high on the #G20 agenda this year. Muito obrigado!

In my column for the Gulf News, I write about the pressing issue of tuberculosis (TB). The global TB cases escalated to 10.6 million in 2022, a 6% increase from 2020, attributed to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. TB has been the leading infectious killer over the past decade, with annual deaths surpassing 1.65 million. The disease's impact is notably severe among HIV-positive individuals, particularly in the African region, where TB and HIV coinfection rates are alarmingly high. Furthermore, the battle against drug-resistant TB is far from over, with only 43% of affected patients accessing proper treatment in 2022. The Copenhagen Consensus suggests that with an investment of $6.2 billion annually, significant strides can be made in TB diagnosis and treatment adherence, potentially averting millions of deaths. These figures not only highlight the gravity of the TB crisis but also the critical need for enhanced global efforts in TB management and prevention. #WorldTBDay #TBStatistics #GlobalHealth

The COVID-19 pandemic hampered progress in fighting tuberculosis infections worldwide. Diverted funds meant that one of the world’s leading infectious killers caused 1.3 million deaths in 2022. TB is also the leading cause of death among those with HIV/AIDS worldwide. In 2022, 167,000 people died of HIV-associated TB. On #WorldAIDSDay, the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS), of which ERS is a founding member, calls on governments, health advocates & non-government organisations to strengthen their response to AIDS and TB. This collaborative effort is necessary to help realize the World Health Organization’s goal of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. More: https://lnkd.in/etsbJ4er
