How could it be that you, the heralds of #human_rights, #freedom_of_speech, and #freedom_of_belief, integral to the essence of #Democracy, find yourselves in such a predicament? Have you not been the mentors to successive generations, imparting the wisdom of these noble principles? Once, governments were denounced as regressive if they oppressed communities and imposed sanctions—your forces deployed to safeguard the very ideals that define the #UnitedStatesofAmerica! Yet, how can we expect today's youth to remain impassive as they witness daily horrors: children massacred in their mothers' arms, or innocent infants subjected to unimaginable atrocities? Could such abominations truly be unfolding in this era, an age supposedly dedicated to realizing the #Sustainable_goals propelling global advancement? What has befallen you? You forged the path for human rights advocacy, establishing laws and institutions to uphold them! Might it be the clamor of the political arena that permits these self-serving individuals to dismantle all that you champion? The #USGOVERNMENT must swiftly intercede, not solely to preserve its integrity but to safeguard the very fabric of our shared existence.

January 25, 1787: A full-blown military confrontation occurs during "Shay's Rebellion", a series of violent attacks on courthouses and other government properties in Massachusetts in 1786 and 1787 to protest economic policies. A group of about 1,200 insurrectionists, mostly ex-Revolutionary War soldiers led by Daniel Shays, approach the federal arsenal at Springfield with guns, clubs, and pitchforks in an attempt to procure weapons. They are met just outside the arsenal by about 4,400 troops under General Benjamin Lincoln with orders to put down the insurgency. As the insurrectionists approach, the troops fire two warning shots then additional shots. Two insurrectionists are killed and another twenty are wounded. That was the culminating event of the rebellion. In response, the Massachusetts legislature passes the Disqualification Act--prohibiting insurrectionists from serving on juries, holding public office, voting, or working as schoolmasters, innkeepers, or liquor salesmen for three years. Later, two additional insurrectionists are executed but many are pardoned by the next Governor, John Hancock. The rebellion impacted the tone of the Constitutional Convention later that summer, resulting in a stronger national government than before. Although the rebellion failed, some of the rebels' grievances were addressed via legislation. "The War Powers Resolution 1973 (also known as the War Powers Act) provides for the president to consult, report and terminate deployment of armed forces with the approval of Congress. Presidents have not always followed this Act. Courts have failed to uphold its legality, the US Supreme Court especially has been reluctant to take on cases which deal with it, regarding it as a political rather than judicial issue."
