Verona Public Library invites its residents to participate in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, a nationwide challenge encouraging caregivers to read aloud to their children regularly. By reading just one book a night, families can reach the goal in three years, providing their children with essential early literacy skills and setting them up for success. Upon signup, the Library provides an introductory packet with book lists, a book tracker, and more details about the program. Children collect a reward sticker for every 100 books read. For more information about Verona Public Library’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, https://hubs.li/Q02C_PBK0. Residents outside Verona are encouraged to contact their local library to find out if they offer this nationwide program! #NewJersey #VeronaNJ #EarlyChildhoodEducation #ChildrensLiteracy

The National Institute for Early Education Research 2023 State of Preschool Yearbook is out and well... there’s still nothing to report for Montana. We know: 📚61% of Montana’s young children are not enrolled in any type of early learning or school readiness program. (KidsCount, 2022) 📚Montana is one of four states in the U.S. not making an essential investment in early learning and literacy for young children. (FiveThirtyEight, 2023) 📚Only 34% of Montana 4th graders are reading at or above grade level. (KidsCount, 2022) A promising measure to boost early literacy for at-risk children (HB 352) passed in 2023 and will help provide early intervention support for some Montana children before kindergarten – a great step in the right direction. But more needs to be done to give all Montana’s kids a solid foundation for success in school and life. Multilingualism and inclusive T&L trainer and coach; teacher improving EAL learner outcomes. Working with schools to develop and integrate highly impactful strategies to help EAL learners to thrive.
Making Parental Engagement Inclusive for Multilingual Families: A Response to the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) guidance. Working with parents to support children’s learning is key, as is the need to critically review how we engage all families, including those from multilingual backgrounds. This is fantastic guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and so I've added some reminders here about how we can ensure inclusion and equity when reviewing our parent-engagement processes through a multilingual lens and in line with the EEF's report. 1. Critically Review Engagement Approaches Assess your current approach with a focus on multilingual families. Provide translated materials and use interpreters to bridge communication gaps. Engage less-involved multilingual parents by asking what support they need to feel included. 2. Practical Strategies for Home Learning Promote shared reading and home learning activities in both English and home languages. Provide parents with bilingual resources and visual guides to support their child’s learning, making sure instructions are clear and culturally relevant. 3. Tailor Communications School communications must be accessible for non-English-speaking parents. Ensure that translated materials are available, and consider bilingual staff or interpreters to facilitate dialogue. Personalised messages, success stories, and two-way communication are essential to build trust and involve multilingual families more effectively - how accessible and appropriate are yours? 4. Provide Intensive Support Where Needed For parents who need additional support, provide workshops and home visits in multiple languages, and design culturally relevant programmes. Use bilingual facilitators to make group sessions more accessible. Proactively address language barriers to ensure families feel included and make it clear that you recognise the strengths that multilingual parents bring. What strategies and processes are having an impact at your school in relation to home-school relationships with multilingual families? #schools #multiligualism #multilinguallearners #eal #inclusion #inclusiveteaching

Nurturing Young Minds: The Art of Educating Children As educators, we have the privilege and responsibility to shape the future by guiding and nurturing young minds. It's not just about teaching ABCs or 123s; it's about creating a safe and supportive environment where children can explore, grow, and develop their unique potential. Every child is different, and it's essential to treat them with respect, patience, and empathy. We need to listen to their voices, acknowledge their feelings, and encourage their curiosity. By fostering a sense of belonging and confidence, we help them build the foundation for a lifetime of learning and success. In our classrooms and beyond, let's remember that the way we treat children today will shape the adults they become tomorrow. Let's be the role models they need, guiding them with kindness, understanding, and love. #Education #ChildDevelopment #EarlyChildhoodEducation #Educators
