Directorate Apprenticeship Lead and School Apprenticeship Support Lead, School of Science, Engineering and Environment
More exciting apprenticeship news to follow over the next few months....
Today we are proud to be named as one of the universities and colleges who will receive funding from the Office for Students (OfS) to support the growth and diversification of our degree apprenticeships. Salford has secured £223,053, a segment in the first wave of the OfS’s transformative multi-million pound degree apprenticeships fund. Paul Ward, Director of International and Regional Development, said: “At Salford we are committed to breaking down perceived barriers to higher education, ensuring that our student cohort reflects the diversity in society. We work to inspire, engage, and enable those who may not consider higher education to fulfil their potential by raising their awareness, challenging barriers, and providing opportunities to further develop their education and employability skills.” You can read our full announcement here: https://lnkd.in/eNHCp2te

When you think of an apprenticeship, what's the first thing that springs to mind? When I was the Apprenticeships and Skills Minister, I always asked people this question, and almost unanimously, their response was a trade or role in the manufacturing or construction sector. As vital as these sectors are, I want to make sure that whatever you want to do, there is an apprenticeship for you. That is why we’ve created apprenticeships for most occupations in the country including, for example, lawyers, accountants and doctors so the traditional university route is not the only way you can achieve your goals. And it's why I'm really proud of the progress we have made since 2010 👇 📈 Delivering nearly 5.6 million apprenticeship starts ✅ Creating 680 apprenticeship standards, with 170 at degree level 🇬🇧 Ensuring nearly 70% of occupations are available via an apprenticeship (for context, in Germany, that number is only 33%) As a former apprentice who is now privileged enough to be the Education Secretary, I am determined to go further. That's why just last year, we put apprenticeships on the university applications website UCAS to make it easier for young people to see what’s available and apply for apprenticeships in the same way they apply for universities. And we are expanding the number of apprenticeships available across even more occupations. It was fantastic to speak at a Bright Blue event on the future of post-16 education at Multiverse yesterday. Bit by bit, we are creating a society where when we think of apprenticeships, the first thing that pops into our minds is broadening opportunities and routes for everyone. #Apprenticeships #Education #Business #Industry #DegreeApprenticeships #FurtherEducation #HigherEducation #University

We love that we get to be a partner with Apprenticeship 2.0. The latest episode offers some history on apprenticeship at the federal level and brings the conversation to teacher apprenticeship in Colorado. "In the second of Apprenticeship 2.0’s two-part series on institutions of higher education and apprenticeship degrees, Joe and Liz chat with Dr. Pam Eddinger, President of Bunker Hill Community College in Massachusetts, and Dr. Liz Qualman, Director of Teacher Education at Colorado Mountain College. Together, they discuss the U.S. Department of Labor’s Advisory Committee for Apprenticeship, how that committee is addressing needs to advance registered apprenticeships, how teacher apprenticeship programs are weaving social justice into the teaching fabric, how apprenticeship programs can serve as a key solution to the teacher shortage, and much more."
