The Miller Hull Partnership, LLP’s Post

Next week, Miller Hull Associate, April Ng, AIA, will be presenting Loom House at the National Institute of Building Sciences’s BEST6 Conference in Austin, Texas. April will be joined by 4EA Building Science Principal, Jeff Speert in the session 'A Mid-Century Gem Goes Net Positive.’ Located on a beautifully landscaped bluff overlooking Puget Sound, Loom House is an extensive renovation of a 1960s Pacific Northwest mid-century 2-building residence on Bainbridge Island. As one of only four homes on earth to meet full Living Building Challenge Certification, the impact of Loom House has continued to drive the project forward, advocating for change far beyond its property line. This presentation will focus on key upgrades to the enclosure. These changes include the addition of insulation, air sealing, and glazing replacement while maintaining and enhancing the character of this distinctly Pacific Northwest home. Lessons learned will be shared that could have applicability to other exposed wood structure buildings. April and Jeff will present an analysis of the global warming potential of the interventions and the strategies employed for net positive energy. The project demonstrates hyper-efficient enclosure design and implementation as well as the potential for greening existing building stock. Click the link to register, https://bit.ly/49yQvik
