We need to pay them more plus give each district enough funding to hire enough social worker, behavioral health therapist and mental health specialist. When I was in the building, we had one social worker among 4 high school! She told me she had to rotate around because there's not enough budget. To me this is unacceptable that we don't have enough funding for these much needed positions. That is why teachers are forced to be everything until the experts can be located. What do you think? Do we need more funding? Is it unreasonable to want at least one of the following: social worker, mental health specialist or a behavioral health specialist in each school?
School social workers expertly combine mental health training & compassion to support students' behavioral health. This #NationalSchoolSocialWorkWeek, we're celebrating our school social workers & their important work in our school communities. #SSWWeek2024

We’re witnessing comparable trends worldwide. In low- and middle-income countries, mental health issues among children and youth are alarmingly prevalent, exacerbated by factors such as conflict, poverty, exposure to trauma, scarce educational and employment prospects, and societal marginalization. Investment in youth mental health is critical here at home and globally. #inclusivedevelopment #localization #communityempowerment #socialjustice #Equity #GlobalDevelopment #internationaldevelopment #development #sustainabledevelopment #peacebuilding #humanitarianaid #humanrights #pyd #youthempowerment #disabilityinclusion #genderequality #positiveyouthdevelopm

social economic inequalities have significant impacts on how we relate to each other on 'emotional and intellectual levels' Our status as human is typified so easily in validation and invalidation. The hybrid nature of typified perceptions/recognition as reception into the world. We learn to appraise our own attributions based on attitudinal acceptance/rejection or somewhere in between - incomprehensions and misunderstandings etc; lack of nuance etc. Awareness is key as we can easily cede ground to others expectations of us in the reception-attribution polarity. https://lnkd.in/ePdh6qNr

Hello, cohort 10 of The Lay Counselor Academy!! We had a fabulous kick-off in Oakland last month with this amazing group! Many are from Oakland organizations, including our long-term collaborator (and the Stop The Hate leader in the Bay Area), Asian Health Services. We also had folks from Northern and Southern CA, New Mexico, Texas, and Minnesota! If the people you serve struggle to get needed behavioral health counseling services, there is a solution. Instead of referring to a months-long waitlist, consider having your already-awesome CHWs, SUD counselors, case managers, health navigators, and teachers' aides enhance their skills and confidence in mental health counseling through our rigorous, engaging, equity, and empathy-centered LCA course. If practicing mental health counseling looks like fun….it is because it is! Join us! The next LCA is scheduled for August 2024. For more information on this course, check out the link below in the comments ⬇️ #mentalhealth #counseling #counselingworks #empathy

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬 Behavioral Health Workforce Pipeline By: Jaime Elder Almost half of all Americans live in an area experiencing a mental health workforce shortage while the demand for services provided by psychiatrists, therapists, counselors and social workers is increasing. Florida has been especially hard-hit by this crisis and when people can’t access the mental health services they need, it can be hard for them to focus, to function and even get out of bed. “When it comes to mental health treatment, we are seeing an increase in the severity and the magnitude of youth being diagnosed with more severe cases of depression, anxiety, and other disorders,” said Andres Torrens, Chief Program Officer of Families First. BeWellPBC has been at the forefront of solution-oriented action and in July 2019, they hosted a Think Tank with seven local universities/colleges, School District of Palm Beach County, Children’s Services Council, Southeast Florida Behavioral Health Network, and Palm Health Foundation to tackle workforce concerns like shortages in the behavioral health field and lack of diversity.
