THE HARDEST THING ABOUT MEDICAL SALES..... Can be getting into Medical sales. I have said this before but it is a conversation I have with prospective candidates 2 or 3 times a week. I would say it is harder than ever as companies prioritise 'plug and play talent'. Certainly from an agency perspective! I had one of these conversations yesterday. An enthusiastic, switched on business graduate with 3 years of sales experience. They are in the top 3 sales people in their current business but are looking to follow in their parents footsteps and excel in medical sales. Even happy to relocate. "What would you do if you were in my shoes" I was asked. When I have these conversations, I try to be as helpful as possible, even if I cant offer an immediate solution. I advise about what I would do, trying to help them get their break – even though it won’t be of any financial benefit to me, it’s the decent thing to do, and it’s a small world out there! I even share a variety of companies that I know have strong graduate schemes and give people the break. You can thank me later 😉 Abbott Olympus EMEA Coloplast Convatec Vygon UK Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ethicon, Inc. B. Braun Group Edwards Lifesciences Mindray My top tips (By no means all!) 1. Be proactive and stand out from the crowd, reach out to people and network! Show them you want it and are willing to go the extra mile. 2. Shadowing - If you are lucky enough to 'develop' the chance to go out with a rep - seize that opportunity, it is invaluable exposure and will light a fire. 3. Research - Become an expert and show your desire, attitude and application to learning. 4. Be realistic - Devices is the a fascinating world....if you are a fresh graduate, you might need to develop some sales acumen in an associated medical market before targeting devices. 5. Never give up - "I want this to be my career for the next 25 years" Follow that dream and make it happen! As a recruiter I am about finding solutions for my clients but I am also a career advisor. I do hope that advice resonates and helps people get that break. All of you needed that break at some point and you made it happen - my compliment and continued success to you all!

What truly sets apart those who thrive in medical sales? It's not just about having the right product knowledge or contacts. Many successful sales reps share one common trait: resilience. I've spoken to individuals who faced numerous setbacks on their journey in this field, yet they're not deterred. They adapt, learn, and keep pushing forward. One representative I spoke with shared how they transformed rejection into motivation, using each "no" as a stepping stone to the next opportunity. The key takeaway? Embracing challenges as part of your growth can lead to incredible success. Every hurdle is a chance to refine your skills and increase your determination. What challenges have shaped your career? Let’s share our experiences and support each other on this journey! https://lnkd.in/gbnyJEy3

How do you get a job that requires experience without being given the opportunity to get experience? This age-told problem is alive and well in the medical sales industry. There are a lot of promising salespeople out there who aren't given a shot because they don't have the experience that employers are looking for. So how do we fix this? Taking a course like mine (ZedMed) is a great way to get certified, developing skills and acumen to be prepared so you have the credentials that these employers are looking for. It's open to absolutely everyone -- removing the impossible biases of needed experience. And before you ask, yes, this is a shameless plug. But ZedMed's sales training really can help in this situation. Aside from ZedMed (shameless plug is over), you need a few things that may come naturally to you. So ask yourself... -Do you naturally talk to people in the elevator? -Are you driven by adversity and truly possess grit? -How do you respond in a dynamic/changing environment? -Overall, are you easy to work with and a quick learner? If you want to get into medical sales, always be yourself, but also work on those traits that will get you in the door -- be tenacious and be bold, in a respectful way. #MedicalSales #MedicalSalesTraining #ZedMed

Executive Recruiter at Four Corners Executive Search || Medical Device, Biotech, and Pharma Recruiter for Sales & Marketing Talent
The two most common reasons I see candidates pursue roles in medical device sales are: income potential and the tie to patient care. It’s widely known that sales representatives in this space are highly compensated for the work they do. There’s lots of reasons to support this, but the bottom line is that still in 2024 medical device sales offers some of the best compensation plans within outside sales. Having an intrinsic tie or motivation to the product you’re selling, or the company you’re selling for, is by far the biggest reason I see people pursue this career path. Knowing that you play even a small role in patient care makes this a career worth getting out of bed for. After thousands of candidate conversations these two motivations are at the top of the list time and time again.
