✨ It's more than just worrying about a sniffle or a twinge—it's a consuming fear of being seriously ill, despite reassurance from doctors and negative test results. Hypochondriasis, now known as Illness Anxiety Disorder, can go unnoticed in many cases. With understanding, support, and appropriate treatment, individuals with Illness Anxiety Disorder can learn to manage their fears and reclaim their peace of mind. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is usually the first line of treatment, helping individuals challenge and reframe maladaptive thoughts and behaviours related to health anxiety. Additionally, mindfulness-based approaches, relaxation techniques, and medication may be recommended in some cases to manage symptoms and promote overall well-being. If you or someone you know is struggling with health anxiety, reaching out for support is the first step toward healing. Compassionate understanding, validation of feelings, and access to appropriate mental health resources can make a significant difference in managing Illness Anxiety Disorder and reclaiming a sense of control and peace of mind. What steps do you take in your workplace to help avoid burnout? Please share your advice or experience below so that others may learn. #WorldMentalHealthDay #Burnout #MentalHealthSupport #Mind #MentalHealthUK #Wellbeing
As today is #WorldMentalHealthDay one mental health topic we want to highlight is #burnout in the workplace. What is it? How does it occur? What can you do to help manage it? We also want to share what we do in the Callimedia office to take care of our #wellbeing during the working day to help avoid #occupationalburnout. What is burnout? According to Mental Health UK, ‘Burnout’ is recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an ‘occupational phenomenon’. While it is not a medical or #mentalhealth condition, it has been classified as a syndrome, meaning a collection of symptoms or signs associated with a specific health-related cause. Burnout is a state of physical, mental and emotional exhaustion. It can occur when you experience long-term #stress and feel under constant pressure. Why is it important to discuss? Burnout doesn't just go away, it can get worse if we don't acknowledge it and can lead to serious health conditions, both physical and mental. Noticing the signs of burnout in yourself and your colleagues, addressing it and taking action to avoid it in the future can help to make a much better working environment and a more efficient and happier workforce. What contributes to burnout? Stress and unmanageable pressure Lack of flexibility in working arrangements Job security or lack of and particularly money worries Isolation - lone working, remote working and/or very little physical interaction Physical and mental health - diagnosed or undiagnosed health conditions Spotting the signs There are many physical and emotional signs and more can be found on https://lnkd.in/dN-jyqE but here are some key ones: Difficulty concentrating and completing tasks Reduced productivity Becoming withdrawn and isolated Increasing lateness or absenteeism from work Exhaustion, tiredness, headaches Demotivated and lack of enthusiam How to manage it and what we do here at Callimedia Take regular breaks - it may seem obvious but according to research only 1 in 10 of us take a full lunch break away from our desks and almost half eat alone. Promote a healthy #WorkLifeBalance - we have flexibility around working hours and make sure we take holiday time. Set realistic workloads and deadlines and always talk if a task is unachievable and what support is needed. Provide resources, training and support to do our jobs. Talk, talk talk - we make time to talk and discuss our week ahead and what projects we are working on. We have an open door policy and share when anything is troubling us, with the safety of not being judged. We will be having regular monthly catch ups away from our desks in order to gain fresh perspectives and change the environment. The list is not exhaustive and with the best intentions life can still get on top of us, but the more we talk about these issues and the more we support each other as employees and employers, the better we can become at improving #mentalhealthandwellbeing in the UK.
