#BlackHistoryMonth, for me, is a time to reflect on the disparities and recommit to my passion for addressing #healthcare inequality. It's refreshing and inspiring when the industry speaks of diversity and inclusion as essential components of high-quality clinical trials. I firmly believe that without adequate representation, there is no true quality in our research. [Otis Johnson, PhD, MPA, Trial Equity] hbanet.org #HBAimpact #BlackHistoryMonth2024

If you have not seen this site it is pretty good and you can sign up for free today. Whenever your local MP stands up and talks in the house if commons it emails you what they said so you can see what is going on. It also gives their voting record which lets you see where they really stand as some clearly lie quite a lot about what they actually waved through on your behalf. It also lets you check when they get a honour such as an OBE or knighthood if they really earned it or just bought it from the last PM? Super tool for constituents and democracy #democracy #mp #houseofcommons

#BlackHistoryMonth | Reflections | Post I 2024 Through my experience in executive leadership and after the murder of Freddie Gray, it became clear to me that America's hospitals and health systems needed thought leadership on how to move forward on a racial equity agenda. My genius colleague Dr. Yanique Redwood and I put our heads together for an evaluation framework inspired by IHI's Triple Aim. Unfortunately, progress has been marginal because boards are still not representative of voices that have been historically silenced. The work must continue. https://lnkd.in/eYbwuK-j

Associate Director of Communications and Marketing at Research!America: Discovery. Innovation. Health.
One of the most exciting parts of my work with Research!America: Discovery. Innovation. Health. is the opportunity to develop public opinion survey instruments, analyze the data, and share that data with the public. In early 2022, we shared some of our data on #clinicaltrials with Dr. Marcella Alsan, a Harvard University Kennedy School of Government professor, and her team. This team recently published an article in the Quarterly Journal of Economics on representation in clinical trials and how that impacts the perceived benefit of medicine featuring some of our data. It is wonderful to have been able to contribute in even a small way to this incredibly important topic!
#ClinicalTrialDiversity is critical to reducing biases, promoting #socialjustice and #healthequity, and producing more innovative science. An article, Representation and Extrapolation: Evidence from Clinical Trials, was released in September 2023 in the Quarterly Journal of Economics on the consequences and causes of low enrollment of Black patients in #clinicaltrials. Data from national public opinion surveys commissioned by Research!America: Discovery. Innovation. Health. is featured throughout the article. Take a look:
