Our portfolio company, Klim, was recently featured on Earthly’s blog! Great overview of the power of regenerative agriculture and Klim’s work to empower farmers. 👩🌾💪 A few key points:   📈 Regenerative farms can experience up to a 60% increase in profits within six years, thanks to improved soil health and reduced reliance on costly inputs like fertilizers and pesticides. 🐛 More than half of all species reside below the earth’s surface. Regenerative methods, including catch crops, crop residues, flower strips, and reduced tillage, enhance biodiversity by safeguarding essential microorganisms and animal species crucial for healthy plant growth. 🤔 Despite the numerous benefits, farmers transitioning to regenerative agriculture encounter challenges such as financial risks, initial yield dips, and knowledge gaps.   Klim is at the forefront, providing farmer-focused critical support to ease this transition. Their vision is to achieve a fully regenerative agricultural system 🌈 through their support platform for farmers and financial assistance via insetting for companies’ supply chains and carbon credits. We take pride in being early supporters of Klim's vision since 2021, right after their launch in 2020. What a needed presentation from exactly the right speaker!

When soil is healthy, it not only stores carbon, but helps farmer livelihoods, communities, and ecosystems become more resilient, improving water availability and quality too.   Since so many of the fashion, textile, and apparel industry’s raw materials come from the land, it has a huge opportunity – and responsibility – to build resilience from the ground up.   As reported in our 2022 Regenerative Agriculture Landscape Analysis, “regenerative agriculture holds immense promise for a range of co-benefits, including overall soil health, biodiversity, water availability and quality, animal welfare, and community resilience and livelihoods.”   Earlier this year, we followed up this report with our Regenerative Agriculture Outcome Framework, which lays out some of the key indicators that make for a regenerative system.
