The new year is a great time to declutter and donate gently used clothing and other items to resale stores, shelters and people in need. Not only does this help others, but it also reduces waste by keeping items out of landfills — a small but impactful step toward addressing a growing global issue. Chicagoland is home to dozens of organizations that accept clothing, furniture, household goods and personal items to repurpose and distribute to those in need. 👉Read more on my blog to find suggested places to donate in the Northwest suburbs. https://lnkd.in/gDQVXBUP #donate #declutter #BairdWarner #HartForYourHome #clothingdonation #householdgoods #charity

A Midlothian company is bringing light into the lives of hard-working teams and big-hearted volunteers who staff Scotland’s charities with a brilliant initiative which will also cut waste and boost the circular economy. Blackmoon Lighting Ltd has established a scheme in which whenever it is engaged in a Category (Cat) B fit out, it recovers energy-efficient light fittings from existing Cat A fit outs which otherwise might be thrown away, refurbishes them and donates them to worthy causes. Pam's references to brooms and sweeping, beg a few questions to ChatGPT. Sweeping, once a common activity in homes and public spaces, has indeed declined in many Western countries for a variety of reasons: Why Sweeping is Rarely Seen in the West: Technology and Modern Cleaning Tools: The rise of vacuum cleaners, blowers, and mechanized street cleaners has replaced the traditional broom in many households and public maintenance routines. Time Constraints: With faster-paced lifestyles, people often prioritize quicker cleaning methods over traditional ones like sweeping. Cultural Shifts: Manual tasks like sweeping are sometimes seen as menial or old-fashioned, leading to less engagement in these activities. Urbanization: Larger urban areas often contract professional cleaning services, leaving less room for individuals to maintain public spaces themselves. Why Sweeping Persists in Some Asian Countries: In many Asian cultures, sweeping is still tied to daily life for practical, cultural, and spiritual reasons: Cultural Values: Regular sweeping of homes, temples, and streets reflects values of cleanliness, discipline, and respect for shared spaces. Spiritual Significance: In certain traditions (e.g., Buddhism and Shintoism), sweeping is symbolic of clearing not only physical dirt but also mental clutter or negative energies. It is seen as an act of mindfulness and service. Community Connection: Sweeping together in public spaces fosters community pride and collective responsibility. Your Desire to Sweep: Your inclination to sweep when you see leaves or dirt might stem from a combination of personal values and psychological triggers: ✅ Sense of Order: You may derive satisfaction from transforming a messy space into a clean one, reflecting a natural preference for order and beauty. ✅ Maintenance Mindset: As you mentioned, you may be attuned to the importance of maintenance—keeping things in good condition and preserving their functionality. ✅ Innate Responsibility: Seeing untidy spaces might awaken a sense of duty to contribute positively to your surroundings. ✅ Connection to the Past: Sweeping can evoke memories of simpler times or align with values you hold dear, such as environmental care or community engagement. ✅ Physicality and Mindfulness: Sweeping is a tactile and rhythmic activity that allows for a sense of accomplishment and calm focus. It's good exercise, too! ✅️ Spiritual Perspective on Sweeping: In spiritual traditions, sweeping is often linked to the act of clearing energy or purifying a space. The broom is sometimes seen as a tool for "sweeping away negativity" and creating room for positive energy. Your instinct to sweep might connect to this deeper, almost meditative urge to restore harmony in a small, tangible way. Your interest in maintenance reflects a deep respect for the world around you and a desire to contribute to its care, which is a beautiful and rare quality in a fast-paced world. #sweeping #brooms
It's the season for making more space in our wardrobes & cupboards. Binning used #clothing is a waste of usable materials & resources. We need to increase #repair and #reuse opportunities for clothes. Charities receive more clothing donations at this time of year than any other. For maximum reuse make sure your donations are clean and not torn. See my article in The Mercury Newspaper. Thanks to Amanda French (GAICD) Launceston City Mission Lee Adamson for the inputs. I am excited to share that we will be launching our Circularity Material Bank in Q1. This innovative scheme is part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and giving back to the community. The Circularity Material Bank is an online platform that has been designed and built in-house to connect our surplus construction materials, tools, and miscellaneous items with charities and individuals. Charities will have access to items free of charge to support their good causes, while individuals and local businesses will benefit from discounted rates. All proceeds from sales will be donated to charitable causes. By launching this initiative, we aim to reduce waste and support charitable organisations simultaneously. The platform will a significant milestone in our ambitious sustainability and social value targets. #CharitySupport #MaterialCircularity #Sustainability #GivingBack #CommunitySupport #LocalBusinesses

Why the Ethical Furniture Network Was Created ♻️ Making Furniture Disposal a Positive Force ♻️ At City Transport, we saw an opportunity to make a real difference—and that’s how our The Ethical Furniture Network came to life. The goal was simple: Reduce waste and help others, while creating a more sustainable future. We noticed many businesses and organisations were looking for a way to responsibly dispose of furniture that was still in great condition. And we saw NHS trusts, schools, charities, and other organisations that could benefit from receiving these donations. By connecting donors with recipients, our network gives second life to furniture that might otherwise end up in landfills. It’s all about making a positive impact on our communities and the environment. 🌍 Together, we can reduce waste and help those who need it the most. 📞 0113 248 9283 📧 info@citytransportltd.co.uk 🌐 www.citytransportltd.co.uk #EthicalFurniture #Sustainability #CommunityImpact #ReduceWaste #FurnitureNetwork

🏡 Ready to clear the clutter and make room for what matters? ✨ Our simple 4-step purge process is here to help you streamline your space. 1️⃣ Sort: Go through each room and sort your items into four categories: Keep, Donate, Sell, and Trash. Be honest about what you really need and use. 2️⃣ Donate: Take the items you've decided to donate to local charities, shelters, or thrift stores. Many organizations even offer pick-up services for larger donations. 3️⃣ Sell: List valuable items online or hold a garage sale. This is a great way to make some extra cash while decluttering. 4️⃣ Trash: Properly dispose of items that are broken or no longer usable. Check for local recycling options for electronics and hazardous materials. Following this process will not only make your home feel lighter and more organized but also prepare it for the market or simply for more joyful living. Ready to start your purge? Let’s get decluttering! 🧹✨ #Declutter #PurgeProcess #HomeOrganization #StratfordAndCo #SortDonateSellTrash #CleanSpace #HomePrep 📸 @workplaybranding
