About us
We are at the dawn of the resource revolution. Faced with global population growth, increasing urbanisation and climate change, it is essential to radically change how our resources are managed and used. Today we have published new research, in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy, into what motivates our re-use shop customers to buy second-hand items. Half of our customers surveyed revealed they were motivated by environmental reasons, with 20% inspired by saving money. As part of our ongoing investment into the development of our services and growing re-use network, we set out to explore what drives people to buy reused items. Keep Britain Tidy conducted the research on our behalf across our network of re-use shops, with face-to-face surveys taking place during May 2024 at 11 locations in Greater Manchester, Surrey, Devon, Calderdale and Aberdeen. See the key findings here: https://lnkd.in/e7CvT2fN

🔌In the UK, 627 million cables are stashed away or binned – that's enough to go to the moon and back! 🌕 These cables contain precious copper which, if #recycled, could meet the UK’s growing demand for copper. Make sure your unwanted cables are put to good use. Find your closest recycling point here: https://lnkd.in/dt38jwy #EWasteDay
Today is International #EWasteDay 🌍🔌 and thousands of people across the UK are getting involved in The Great Cable Challenge! From schools to community groups, families to football teams, offices to high-street retailers, everyone is bagging up their old cables and recycling them this October. E-waste is one of the fastest growing sources of waste in the world, and in the UK - and cables are one of the UK’s biggest challenges. Every cable and other electricals saved from the ‘drawer of doom’ or dusty cupboard is helping to save precious copper from going to waste. Copper is vital in many essential everyday items, and by recycling our electricals we can help fill the gap in the UK’s growing copper deficit. To find out more about why it's so important, check out our Executive Director Scott Butler on the BBC Breakfast sofa yesterday! You can help be part of the solution. The Great Cable Challenge is running throughout October, and it’s not too late to get involved! Download our toolkit from our website for more information https://bit.ly/3zKWTqQ or bag up your old electricals and drop them off at your local donation or recycling point: https://bit.ly/3ZWBw0j If a million of us recycled at least one cable, we could save 5,000kg of copper from going to waste! Thank you to everyone who has organised a pop-up collection, shared their recycling stories on social media, sang along to HypnoCat’s trance track, or dropped off their cables and other electricals at their local drop-off points. And a huge shout-out to our partners, our agencies, and the whole Material Focus team for making this an International E-Waste Day to remember! #GreatCableChallenge #RecycleYourElectricals #EWasteDay #WEEEForum

♻️ #RecycleWeek ♻️ What happens to #recycling after it's been collected? Mixed recycling goes to a materials recycling facility (MRF) where it is sorted and separated into different types of materials before being sent onto reprocessors to make new products. Find out more about materials recycling facilities here: https://lnkd.in/eGQ4_f3H #RecycleWeek2024
