This Pride Month, we're highlighting the critical need for increased support and funding for trans and gender-diverse communities. Our new report reveals stark disparities in funding and a compelling opportunity to invest in trans and gender-diverse leaders and communities. Last year, The Sonor Foundation with partners, including World Education Services, Ontario Trillium Foundation, The United Church of Canada Foundation, Fondation Chamandy Foundation, Martha LA McCain, The Canadian Women's Foundation and The Counselling Foundation of Canada, launched a $2.1M Transcend Impact Challenge. We set out to support trans and gender-diverse communities to thrive and live prosperous lives through supportive environments, economic and financial stability and inclusion, housing, education, and access to inclusive health care. July 2024 – Pact For The Future – Chapter 4: Youth and Future Generations – Comparison of REV 1 and REV 2 The first revision of the Pact for the Future (REV 1) was launched on May 14, 2024, and was succeeded by the second revision (REV 2) on July 17, 2024. REV 2 represents an advancement in addressing the requirements and rights of children and young people, going beyond the constraints present in REV 1. It outlines a more holistic approach that intertwines social and economic development aimed at a wider audience, particularly vulnerable groups. Furthermore, REV 2 focuses on increasing investment in social services and encouraging active youth involvement in shaping their destinies. This revision also provides a more defined pathway for the complete realization and safeguarding of young people's rights. It shifts from strict guidelines to supportive recommendations, enhancing community involvement and inclusivity in decision-making processes. Notably, it recognizes the vital role of youth in advocating for their rights while confronting negative stereotypes and harmful practices that hinder their potential. Nevertheless, the transition from a focus on direct funding to a broader strategy that centers on raising awareness and promoting contributions might raise some concerns. Stay informed about all the modifications, removals, and additions in the latest ICH Bulletin below. #PactForTheFuture #YouthEmpowerment #FutureGenerations #YouthRights #SocialDevelopment #EconomicDevelopment #InvestInYouth #CommunityInvolvement #InclusiveDecisionMaking #AdvocateForYouth #PositiveChange #Sustainability #YouthLeadership #HolisticApproach #ICHBulletin #GlobalYouth #EmpoweringYouth #ChildrensRights #YouthAdvocacy #SocialJustice #SummitOfTheFuture

Dear youth worker Equity, diversity and interdependence is a fundamental ethos of quality youth work. In recent days we have seen an increase in radicalisation and exploitation of our young people by racists from all over the UK and Ireland. These people are the very antithesis of our work and we have a responsibility to challenge those in our organisations to help fulfil the inclusion messages that we are not only open to all, but celebrate difference. A number of you organisations are fighting back and hope that you might join us in supporting societies most vulnerable. Please come join the campaign and provide your young people with a voice. Here are some suggestions for your young people to undertake to help undermine the messages that young people are racist: - Social media stories of their interdependence and relationships with difference - Young people making statements of their commitment to celebrate and enjoy difference - Young people to state their care and compassion for our immigrant communities - Young people making a stand against violence against anyone - Young people stating that this does not represent them or their communities. Please share this email and start a campaign of love and compassion not hate and violence. These people are not a true reflection of community and need to be challenged now. Help give our young people a voice as we have always done Regards Stephen Hughes

October 4, the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, girls and gender diverse people. This day we recognize the loss of mothers, sisters, daughters, kokum's, aunties, cousins and friends and the ignorance from the Canadian government and justice systems that perpetuated the violence that disproportionately affects Indigenous peoples. Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Gendered Diverse people (MMIW) is a Canadian national crisis and genocide. In response to repeated calls from Indigenous groups, activists, and non-governmental organizations, the Government of Canada under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau established a National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in September 2016. According to the report presented on June 3, 2019, "Indigenous women and girls in Canada are disproportionately affected by all forms of violence. Although Indigenous women make up 4 % of Canada's female population, 16 % of all women murdered in Canada between 1980 and 2012 were Indigenous." For more information about the report and suggestions for actionable steps for reconciliation with Indigenous Women, Girls and Gender Diverse peoples please see Ontario Native Women's Association Website at https://www.onwa.ca/about Of interest, you might consider researching Sisters of Spirit Vigils hosted across communities of Ontario and Canada, where all are welcome to embrace connection, community, and change to raise awareness and honour the lives of MMIW and their families. As Recreation Therapists, consider reviewing the DEIB Resource hub at https://lnkd.in/gWR8bMVN for a long list of educational links that may support your learning about Canada's treatment of Indigenous Peoples and develop cultural humility in your practice. If you were able to discuss the Red Dress Project or other Truth and Reconciliation strategies in your practice please consider sharing with all recreation therapists of Ontario, and email: deib@trontario.org with your story. #MMIWG2S #MMIGActionNow #Sisterinspirit

Decisions made today will directly impact younger and future generations 👇 On September 22, at the United Nations #SummitOfTheFuture, world leaders adopted the Pact for the Future and the Declaration on Future Generations. 💡 A key highlight of the Summit was ‘Youth Action Day,’ where, for the first time, the focus was on young people’s role in global decision-making. We proudly advocated for the creation of a UN Convention on Youth Rights and introduced the Youth Progress Index to delegations and activists from all over the world. What still needs to be done? 1️⃣ Establishing Regional Dialogues & Funding. 2️⃣ Ensuring representation in data, to not exclude voices from decision-making processes. https://lnkd.in/dYKiffVp

Thrilled to share some insights from our recent workshop, "Collectivising Mental Health," hosted by Athena - Research and Education Institute and the Liga de Salud Trans in Bogotá, Colombia. Over three intensive days, 23 trans human rights defenders from 8 different regions came together to delve into critical discussions on care strategies, current MHPSS approaches, and the unique challenges within their contexts. Our key takeaways resonate deeply: · Mental health is a collective concern, intricately intertwined with structural issues spanning individual, social, and political spheres. · Recognizing mental health as a social construct is vital, challenging power dynamics inherent in diagnoses, labels, and treatments. · Addressing leaders' burnout is urgent; creating spaces for well-being discussions and distributing responsibilities across communities is essential. · Grassroots organizations should not be expected to replace state-welfare roles. We must advocate for policy change that guarantees these communities' rights. Excited for our forthcoming regional workshops, led by these amazing activist who will tailor each session to address local needs of their community. This project is part of a TMT grant from the Orange Knowledge Programme, managed by Nuffic Global Development, a Dutch non-profit organisation for internationalisation in education funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thank you to our great team! Juli Salamanca Cortes Teun Zuiderent-Jerak Patricia Rojas García-Borreguero #MHPSS #TransRights #HumanRightsDefenders

IGRORE YOUTH WITH DISABILITY AND UN GOALS WILL FAIL. Did You Know In September 2024 world leaders will come together for the Summit of the Future in New York, to accelerate progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? These global goals aim to reduce poverty and inequality by 2030, but with the deadline looming and 50% of time gone, only 12% of targets have been met. Without immediate and radical action, and underrepresented voices being heard, they will fail. As the Global Youth ambassador for the Equal campaign courtesy of nomination by Sightsavers I join the global advocacy push calling for action in the lead up to the #SummitoftheFuture in September. “The central promise of the goals, to leave no one behind, is in peril. We must listen to the voices of those being left behind, and ensure their ideas are at the heart of the commitments made.” Sightsavers #SummitoftheFuture #ObjectiveInclusion United Nations #SGDs #LeaveNoOneBehind

📊 The third set of indicators from the "Youth Social Inclusion Index at the Local Level 2023-2024" focuses on the extent to which young people are involved in the development and implementation of public policies at the local level. When it comes to youth participation in policy-making, the average score is 30%, which falls under the unsatisfactory category on the ranking scale. The results reveal that as many as 17.5% of municipalities do not involve young people in the creation of public policies at all, while only 4% of municipalities are ranked as excellent in consulting youth on public policy matters. These municipalities are Ohrid, Zelenikovo, and Tetovo. 🔗 The full analysis is available at the following link. https://lnkd.in/dybv8zs5 Follow us to learn more for the other indicators of social inclusion of young people! ✨ This analysis is part of the "Youth Inclusive Local Communities" project, which is implemented in partnership with the Local Community Development Foundation, Youth Empowerment Platform - YEP and SFERA INTERNATIONAL Bitola, with support from the European Union. #LocalYouthAction #LocalYouthParticipation

🚨New programme alert🚨 Today the Foundation is launching a new funding programme - Racial Diversity UK. Managed by our Programme Head Liz Gilfillan, it is offering grants from £15K to £750K for research proposals into understanding the barriers and finding solutions for a more racially just and inclusive society. We want to see ideas that: ➡ Contribute to understanding, public debate, policy and/or practice on tackling racial inequalities, discrimination and disadvantage. ➡ Map pathways towards a UK that is comfortable with, and reaping the benefits of, its growing racial diversity. Racial Diversity UK has a broad reach, placing race and ethnicity at the centre from which any intersectionality with class, disability, gender, place and other dynamics would be explored. 💷 Grant awards will generally start at £15,000, reaching up to £750,000 for ambitious multi-year projects. 🤝 We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, and partnership applications which bring together researchers and racially minoritised communities. 📅 There are two opportunities every year to apply to the fund, with deadlines in October and April. Our first application round is open until 14th October. 📧 Programme Head Liz is actively encouraging potential applicants to get in touch to find out more about the fund and discuss research ideas. Email RDUK@nuffieldfoundation.org to start a conversation. Read more: https://ow.ly/b70Y50SqHuu
