This July, our research team explored climate change concerns, climate change risk, and mental health among LGBTQ+ young people. For the first time, we investigated how climate change plays a role in both the mental and physical health of LGBTQ+ youth, and how intersectionality of identity and location impact climate anxiety 🌍☀️ Among the entire sample of LGBTQ+ young people we surveyed, the majority reported worrying about climate change “a lot”. Climate change worry was related to higher rates of depression and anxiety symptoms. What does this mean? As our environment changes, LGBTQ+ young people are increasingly concerned for the future. Environmental stressors like climate anxiety cause grief, discomfort, and uncertainty. That’s why accessible, comprehensive mental health care is more important than ever for LGBTQ+ youth. This article from Attitude Magazine yesterday really hit me in many ways. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I’ve been very fortunate to not only work in many safe and supportive work environments, but help build and drive them too. I also recognise that this is not the reality for many. Recent research reveals that a staggering 86% of LGBTQ+ professionals don't feel safe being themselves at work, and 44% experience depression. I think this is such a shame in 2024 and have always been an advocate of that if you can be your true self personally at work then you will bring your best self professionally. These stats are a stark reminder of the challenges our community continues to face and it’s crucial that we work together to create inclusive, supportive workplaces where everyone can thrive without fear. It’s my view that employers should commit to create environments where authenticity is celebrated, and mental health is prioritised. Now more than ever 🏳️🌈 #LGBTQ #MentalHealth #WorkplaceDiversity #Equity #Diversity #Inclusion

🌈 Celebrating Pride Month: A Focus on Mental Health and Well-Being 🌈 June is Pride Month, a time to honor the LGBTQ+ community's history, celebrate diversity, and recognize the ongoing fight for equality. It's also a crucial moment to highlight the importance of mental health and well-being within the community. Research consistently shows that LGBTQ+ individuals face unique mental health challenges, often due to discrimination, stigma, and a lack of understanding. These factors can contribute to higher rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. This Pride Month, let's commit to creating inclusive and supportive environments where everyone can thrive. Here are some ways we can all contribute: 1. Promote Awareness: Educate yourself and others about the mental health challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. 2. Be an Ally: Stand up against discrimination and support policies that protect LGBTQ+ rights. 3. Offer Support: Encourage open conversations about mental health and provide resources for those in need. 4. Foster Inclusion: Create safe spaces in our workplaces and communities where everyone feels valued and accepted. By supporting mental health and well-being, we honor the true spirit of Pride: acceptance, love, and unity. 🌟 #PrideMonth #LGBTQ #MentalHealth #WellBeing #Inclusion #Support #Diversity #LoveIsLove

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈 This month, we celebrate and spread awareness of the LGBTQ+ community in the workplace and their mental health. Did you know: - 31% of LGBTQ+ individuals have faced discrimination and micro-incidents at work. - 85% of employees believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce is crucial for driving innovation. - Using a trans young person's correct name and pronouns can reduce symptoms of depression by 71%, thoughts of suicide by 34%, and suicide attempts by 65%. - 1 in 4 people in the LGBTQ+ community have left a job because they didn’t feel accepted. Remember, your words matter! 🗣 When it comes to using the right terminology, we know that most people don't have bad intentions. But the more inclusive we can be, the better everyone will feel. Being mindful of our daily language can make us more aware and encourage reflection on how we can embrace everyone. 🫶 🏳️🌈 #pridemonth #LGBTQ #inclusiveworkplaces #mentalhealthmatters #yourwordsmatter

DID YOU KNOW? LGBTQ+ youth are not inherently prone to suicide risk because of their sexual orientation or gender identity but are placed at higher risk because of societal mistreatment and stigma. Understanding this distinction is crucial. The increased risk for suicide among LGBTQ+ youth is not due to their identities, but the result of how they are treated by others. Stigma, discrimination, and lack of support can lead to feelings of isolation and despair. It's our responsibility to create inclusive and accepting environments at home, in schools, and in workplaces. By standing against discrimination and offering genuine support, we can significantly reduce the mental health risks faced by LGBTQ+ youth. Together, we can foster a society where all youth feel safe, valued, and supported. 🌈💖 #MentalHealthAwareness #LGBTQ #EndStigma #SupportAndLove #InclusiveCommunities #Pride

Nearly half of LGBTQ+ young adults face the heart-wrenching reality of being estranged from at least one family member. In fact, LGBTQ+ adults are twice as likely as their non-LGBTQ+ peers to report strained or distant relationships with immediate family. For many, the pressure to uphold a "family myth" or identity leads to painful rejections. Families may cast out those who don’t fit their narrative of what’s “acceptable,” leaving LGBTQ+ individuals to navigate their identity without the foundational support of loved ones. This estrangement is often rooted in misunderstanding, fear, and societal pressure. The toll it takes is profound, leaving deep emotional scars. Yet, in the face of rejection, many find strength in chosen family—those who offer love, acceptance, and support unconditionally. 💬 If you’ve experienced this type of estrangement, how have you found your way to healing? What advice would you give others facing a similar situation? #lgbt #lgbtq #siblingestrangement #familyestrangement #familyhealing #siblingrivalry #siblingrelationship #familydynamics #mentalhealth #emotionalhealing #emotionalhealth #selfacceptance #selfgrowth #selfcare
