We’re delighted to announce that we have been recognised in the latest CCLA Investment Management report for making the biggest overall improvement in managing workplace mental health over the past two years. We’ve retained the Tier 2 status awarded to us in 2023 – indicating our consistent approach to integrating mental health management into our business strategy and reporting. The CCLA corporate mental health benchmark is used by investors to evaluate how the world’s largest listed companies are approaching and leading in driving positive change in employee mental health. This is a focus for investors because the financial performance of a company is directly linked to the mental health of its employees. At Weir, we recognise that the safety, physical and mental health and wellbeing of our employees are intrinsically linked and so wellbeing is a core part of our #zeroharm. We want everyone at Weir to know that we care - that it’s ok not to be ok and that we prioritise mental wellbeing. In the past five years or so, there has been a growing awareness around mental health in the workplace. The focus around mental health has seen Australia making significant progress in this matter, with the creation of a Work Health and Safety Strategy by Safe Work Australia. One of the key priorities in this strategy is psychological health and safety at work. According to Katherine Taylor, Director of Psychosocial and Consultation at Safe Work Australia: “On average, work-related psychological injuries have longer recovery times, higher costs, and require more time away from work. We know that psychological injuries continue to rise in number and severity.” Managing psychosocial hazards in the workplace is now a necessary part of any business. Here's how we promote good mental health and mitigate psychosocial hazards at Now Actually: ✅ We ensure that the management team are aware of what psychosocial hazards are, as well as how to identify them in the workplace. ✅ We have employee wellbeing programs in place ✅ We always put ourselves under the microscope to challenge whether our team culture promotes a mentally healthy attitude or not How does your workplace promote mental health and manage psychosocial hazards? A survey found that while many Canadian employers believe they are providing adequate support for psychological health and safety, employees have a different perception. According to the survey, only 42% of employees feel their employer provides a psychologically safe work environment, and only 44% believe their organization effectively supports their mental health. 👉The Creating Authentic Spaces toolkit on our resources page is another source for your DEI journey. It highlights steps employees can take personally and within their organizations to create inclusive spaces. https://lnkd.in/e6mExYBq

As we're now in April, it's not only the start of Spring but time to embrace Stress Awareness Month, where we can reflect on the importance of mental health and wellbeing, particularly in our workplaces. The HSE Government agency, reported that over 17 million days were lost due to work related stress, depression, or anxiety over the last year. That’s over 50% of all work-related ill health cases, costing the Government billions of pounds. This is why across the Steel Dynamics Group of companies we have trained Mental Health First Aiders at all 4 businesses, and we will continue to invest in more training as the businesses grow. We understand that it’s impossible to perform at full capacity 100% of the time; we need find a careful balance between work, family time and social time to avoid physical or mental burnout. Our mental health first aiders are someone to talk to about a balanced lifestyle. At the Steel Dynamics Group, we also have a Health Assured wellbeing portal for our employees. We offer an Employee Assistance Program which provides a counselling support service for any personal, work or family issues. And all of our employees are provided with healthcare benefits and a rewards scheme. Our commitment to our employees growth, development and wellbeing not only benefits the individuals but also contributes to the growth and success of the company as a whole.

The month of May marks an important time in the year for mental health. In Europe, for example, this week is Mental Health Awareness week, while in North America the whole month is dedicated to awareness on mental health topics. Regardless of where you are in the world, mental health can affect us all at any time. At Allianz Partners we strive to ensure all our employees are heard and understood, both personally and professionally. Anna Kofoed, Chief Officer for the Travel Line of Business and Sponsor of Health & Wellbeing shares her inspiring view: “I am a strong believer in working on wellbeing both at work and in our private lives to create a balance between different spheres of our lives from career to social relationships, health and physical wellbeing. As a Sponsor of Health & Wellbeing at Allianz Partners, I recognize the vulnerability inherent in acknowledging our own struggles and the courage it takes to seek help, especially at the workplace. Yet, I firmly believe that by fostering a culture of openness and support, we not only enhance employee satisfaction but also drive innovation and productivity. Acknowledging that stress and challenges are inevitable, we must strive to create an environment where our team members feel supported and empowered to prioritize their mental health. This means not only providing resources and programs but also leading by example, openly discussing the importance of self-care, and destigmatizing conversations around mental health. Together, let's continue to prioritize mental health in the workplace, because when our people thrive, so does our organization.” Inspired to #workwithus? As of July 1st, 2023, the new government guidelines dictate that workplaces must be psychologically safe. Mental health is a growing challenge in our workplaces. Considering that the adult population dedicates roughly a third of their life to work, the role of workplaces becomes pivotal in protecting, improving, and supporting the mental well-being of their workforce. What implications does this hold for your business? Under the OHS Act, employers are obligated to provide and maintain a working environment for their employees, including independent contractors, that is safe and without health risks, so far as is reasonably practicable. A mentally healthy workplace has measures in place to prevent harm by identifying risks to mental health, managing harm from an early stage, and supporting recovery. A genuine commitment to health and safety is expected from business operators and managers, along with active involvement and collaboration from the team. Demonstrating a sincere dedication to health and safety sets the tone for the team to follow suit. 📢 Hard Truth: Providing mental health benefits isn't improving your organization's culture. Because it's not *what* employee benefits you offer, it's *how* you: ☑️ Support mental health in day-to-day interactions with team members. ☑️ Train leadership and managers to recognize employees in mental distress. ☑️ Promote the proactive & preventative ways to engage in your mental health benefits on a regular basis. ☑️ Ensure all company policies support---not contradict---employee mental health & work-life balance. ☑️ Create a safe space for employees. #mentalhealthbenefits #EAP #mentalhealthstigma
