We partnered with Somos Un Pueblo Unido and New Mexico Health Equity Partnership to amplify the voices of oil & gas workers in New Mexico. We are sharing extracts from Somos' Worker Voices Series, which features the hopes and concerns of current and former workers (mostly Latino and immigrant) amidst an energy transition. It's time for a just transition–one that creates clean energy jobs while supporting the workers who powered our past.

Australia is an energy superpower, exporting 90% of gas and using 2% domestically. Here we have more gas than any other country on the planet. We send it to every other place in Asia so they can have cheap gas and we don't do anything to protect ourselves. The whole system is broken and this transition to this clean energy future is going to gutter us. The Australian swamp is the bureaucracy. It doesn't change. The LNP can get in, the labour party but the bureaucracy doesn't change. Someone's got to get in there with sledge hammer and break that all up! 💪🙏 Wow...when Australians speak truth and wisdom such as this, it gives me hope that all is not lost!! Why is it beneficial to produce oil domestically in the UK instead of importing it? 🛢️ Job Creation: Supports and increases employment opportunities locally. 🛢️ Investment in Local Communities: Encourages more investment into local regions. 🛢️ Energy Security. #UnionJackOil #LocalEnergy

Enhancing energy literacy in Canada to ensure informed decision-making by decision-makers is challenging. A volunteer-based organization, The Energy Ecosystem Foundation, produces unbiased videos about energy usage to aid these efforts. These videos, created independently of industry affiliations, offer a clear and factual view of energy-related topics. Tofani emphasizes the importance of such unbiased advocacy to improve people's understanding of energy sources and consumption, given that current levels of energy literacy need to be revised. A recent Bloomberg article informed readers that "Belgium’s King Philippe and Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba refuelled a hydrogen-powered truck at a venture involving the European country’s Compagnie Maritime Belge close to Walvis Bay on the arid west coast." The article continued, claiming that "commercial production of hydrogen will start this year and there are plans to spend $3.5 billion on a bigger project to use the sun’s rays to split water and convert the resultant gas into more-easily transportable ammonia." President Nangolo Mbumba rightly stated that winning our country's independence was hard but also expressed pride in saying, “...here we are, 34 years later, talking about things no one could dream about.” This ambitious initiative not only paves the way for our economic success, but also presents new business opportunities on a global scale. Global Biodiversity and climate justice actions, Environmental and social justice work and admirer and supporter of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in nature protection
Dear friends, watch and share this video produced by Greenpeace International and The People’s Health Tribunal. This video tells the story of how communities stood up to big fossil fuel companies, Shell and TotalEnergies. These companies have harmed people’s health and the environment through their oil and gas projects for decades. The video shares how communities are calling for justice and repair for the damage done. We know that climate justice must include justice, based on community aspirations and systemic change away from colonial extractivism. From the Niger Delta to the EACOP pipeline, communities are facing displacement, violence and ecological destruction at the hands of extractive industries. Across Africa and the world, communities are demanding justice for the harm caused by @Shell and @TotalEnergies ✊ In May 2023, twelve courageous voices from The People’s Health Tribunal bore witness to the transgressions of Shell and TotalEnergies in Africa. Oil, gas and mining corporations are making outrageous profits at the expense of the health and well-being of people around the world, especially those living on the frontlines of extraction ❤️🩹🌍 Dear friends The ONLY WAY to move towards a healthier and fairer future is to urgently phase out all fossil fuels and hold the industry accountable for the damage they are causing. These communities are still fighting for justice, and we must support their demands. #EndFossilCrimes #MakePollutersPay #PeoplesHealthTribunal

Norway is the biggest energy supplier in Europe, and one of the largest exporter of fossil gas worldwide. Despite a common picture of Norway being „green“, it is one of the world’s prime countries to expand fossil fuel infrastructure. Most recently, the government awarded dozens of exploration licenses to drill in the Barents Sea. Meanwhile, the Oil Fund has grown to 4 times its GDP giving lasting wealth to the Norwegian people and unparalleled fiscal space to the government. In the past weeks, I talked to the environmental movement, political parties, companies, the Norwegian government, and academics to understand how a meaningful and just transition to a post-fossil economy can be achieved. One thing is clear: it’s going to be a struggle. Not because there are no other jobs, or no economic alternatives. Rather because a common myth of shared prosperity protects the power of the state-industrial complex around Norwegian Oil. But what does that prosperity mean on a heating and dying planet? My next stop is the UK where a new Labor government announced to stop new licensing for oil and gas in the North Sea. I am curious to hear how the UK navigates this landmark decision, from which many other rich countries that still allow and support new fossil fuel projects can learn #canada, #US, #norway, #saudiarabia, #quatar, #australia

A great article by John Desjarlais, Executive Director, Indigenous Resource Network! "Most people I know don’t pay much attention to bills in Parliament. But this one has got us talking. The part of it that stood out to me was: it is “prohibited for a person to promote a fossil fuel” in a manner that suggests it would “lead to positive outcomes in relation to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.” This would make the organization I lead, the Indigenous Resource Network, a target. Our mandate is to promote Indigenous participation in, and benefits from, resource development, which to us includes the tens of thousands of Indigenous people involved in the oil and gas sector." 🤔Large private companies in Spain have been tapping into European subsidies intended for energy communities, as revealed by an independent research journalist. 😢Unfortunately, this means the objectives of the ambitious supporting measures for energy communities by the Spanish Government aren't being met. ❓How can we safeguard these support measures to prevent exploitation by other market players? And more importantly, how can we ensure that the #RepowerEU Chapter money for energy communities directly supports genuine energy communities on the ground? 🔗Read the full article: https://bit.ly/3vZkpOG
