When updating your CV, it’s essential to list your most recent position or company first under the career experience section. This format is known as reverse chronological order, and it allows potential employers to see your most relevant and recent experiences at the top of the list. Here’s a quick guide on how to structure it: Career Experience Section: Most Recent Position: Job Title: [Your Most Recent Job Title] Company Name: [Company Where You Recently Worked] Location: [City, State/Country] Dates of Employment: [Month/Year – Month/Year or Present] Responsibilities and Achievements: [Briefly describe your key responsibilities and accomplishments] Previous Position: Job Title: [Your Previous Job Title] Company Name: [Company Where You Worked Before] Location: [City, State/Country] Dates of Employment: [Month/Year – Month/Year] Responsibilities and Achievements: [Briefly describe your key responsibilities and accomplishments] Earlier Positions: Continue listing earlier positions in reverse chronological order, following the same format. Example: Career Experience Senior Project Manager ABC Corp, New York, NY June 2022 – Present Led a team of 10 in delivering projects on time and within budget. Implemented new project management software, improving efficiency by 20%. Project Manager XYZ Inc., San Francisco, CA March 2019 – May 2022 Managed cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact projects. Increased client satisfaction scores by 15% through improved communication strategies. By starting with your most recent role, you ensure that your latest skills and accomplishments are front and center, making a stronger impression on potential employers.

Happy 4th of July! Here's 4 things you're likely already doing that can lead to a project management role: 1. Facilitating meetings Not all meetings are created equal. Have meetings that are effective. Set agenda, evaluated list, driving decisions and progress. 2. Managing work and teams I've spoken a lot about building PM experience where you are. If you've done this, you're likely already performing PM duties. Document what you're doing, the outcomes, and supportive metrics. 3. Reporting on KPIs How do you know if what you're doing is worthwhile? You need goals and metrics to measure against. That's where key performance indicators (KPIs) come in. Make sure every project you're on has them, evaluates them, and reports on them regularly. 4. Executing progression What gets measured gets managed (see KPIs above). As a PM, you're constantly driving progress forward. There's a good chance you're doing this in your current work and projects. Make sure you keep a running journal to reference toward new opportunity. See, you're already a project manager. You just don't have the title yet. Keep doing the above. Document everything you're doing. Incorporate effectively into your resume. Start applying, networking, and pursuing new opportunities. Look at you go, project manager.
