"Does it look like I give a damn?" - James Bond In Casino Royale, James Bond, after losing a poker game, bluntly orders a martini. When the bartender asks him if he wants it shaken or stirred, Bond delivers that dismissive line. It is a wildcard nod to a franchise built on one liners. I don’t have a lot of one-liners but I do have some serious concerns about our broken food system… and “wildcard” is my middle name (actually it’s Wrey). But there are some set out to fix our food, many of these people (and brands) will be at #CHFAnow in Vancouver this week, and so will I—along with my Ethical Food Group brain trust Bob Stamnes and Ric Williams and I am really looking forward to seeing everyone—especially all my Aisle 42 podcast guests and their teams! All products (Wine, Beer, Spirits) should be clearly labelled 'home brand', instead of continually and deliberately deceiving customers. With this deceptive vertical integration on top of the duopoly (Coles and Woolies/Endeavour) controlling almost 70% of liquor sales nationally, it's no wonder local wineries, breweries and distilleries are suffering. What good is it to the local economy when they prefer to sell home brand products over real, locally made products. The government should help customers make informed choices by changing labelling laws.

SO... everyone has probably seen this floating around. What I find super interesting about this is that the fictional story they've created is quite compelling. The oppositional forces in conflict banding together around the quality of the wine and the love of the place. It's ALMOST like real life... So now companies pay storytellers to create fictional stories for brands? Across the board? Interesting times. How would this apply in your industry?
