“It’s really about meeting people where they’re at [and] working at their pace,” Brass said. “I try not to be pushy at all. At the same time, I want to encourage them, help give them hope. A lot of these people have dealt with very extreme trauma throughout their life, so just being there to listen to them if they want to share, because a lot of people don’t have anyone to talk to. So just being that listening seems to really go a long way for them.” Neighborhood Navigators stems from the Manhattan District Attorney’s $6 million investment towards nonprofit the Bridge to establish outreach programs in four focus neighborhoods staffed by “peers” with similar life experiences. The initiative will run for roughly three years and officially kicked off this past February. Ortiz and Brass started in June and make up the Harlem team. MA Early Childhood Funder Collaborative Director; Passionate about helping our youngest grow and thrive
Congratulations to Vetto Casado, the Shifting Power, Advancing Justice team, and all at The Boston Foundation for this tremendous work. And thanks to Vetto to posing great questions in his reflection. They are for all of us in #philanthropy to consider - here are some modifications for me, relevant to my work in the Massachusetts Early Childhood Funder Collaborative: * How can we collectively position ourselves and leverage our resources to ensure our work hits its substantial potential? * How do we come together as a collective? What is the cadence? And how do we ask the right questions going forward? * How can we support the table setting? How can we bring chairs - and tables - that we don't occupy, but to allow others immersed in the work to construct a vision and definition of success that we can then support?
This month, TBF proudly announced the first six brilliant nonprofit leaders who will partner with us in "Shifting Power, Advancing Justice," a $4 million commitment to support community leaders and their organizations with unrestricted, wellness, technical assistance and emergency support. For SPAJ Director Vetto Casado, it's the realization of an opportunity that began more than 4 years ago - and a connection to an idea that began to take shape in his mother's hair salon in Chelsea. This inspiring nonprofit was looking for a solution to refurnish their new office under a tight budget, yet they still wanted to create a warm and inviting environment for their employees and guests. AIS and OMNIA Partners, Nonprofit were able to provide them with the opportunity to purchase brand new furniture that offered substantial savings and allowed for them to stay in budget. OMNIA Partners, Nonprofit harnesses the power of cooperative purchasing to lower costs & simplify procurement decisions. For a nonprofit, like PACE, saving time and money is crucial to continued success and growth, and we are excited to continue our partnership with AIS to make it happen! Erin Thibodeaux-Davison, MBA (She/Her) Thibodeaux-Davison is the President & CEO at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana, an organization that is marking 45 years of offering critical youth mentoring programs in Louisiana. We talk about resiliency, and what it means to lead an organization through FOUR federally named disasters within a year (not to mention a pandemic). We discuss: * Valuable lessons for nonprofit leaders about #surviving – and even #thriving – in the midst of mother nature’s chaos (and coming out even stronger on the other side). * The need for volunteer #mentors. * BBBS of SWLA’s Big Defender Fund https://lnkd.in/evBgBAXS

Professor, Consultant, Researcher, & Fundraiser - Ph.D., MBA, ACFRE Building capacity and helping professionals #choosenonprofitcareers
Hey, current Texas A&M University - The Bush School of Government and Public Service students. There is a fantastic online course being offered this Fall that could help you whether you are studying policy or have already found the bright side and have joined our nonprofit management track. 😉 PSAA 689-602 Nonprofit Advocacy in the Policy Process helps students understand how nonprofits advocate to affect policy and implementation of programs. Best part is that you get to learn from Dr. Wynn Rosser, who currently serves as President & CEO of the T.L.L. Temple Foundation and has been working to bring broadband to East Texas, among many other things. (Admit I have a bias because I love the T.L.L. Temple staff. They are doing philanthropy about as well as it can be done.) Check out the class! #choosenonprofitcareers

What local issues do the nonprofit partners in Spur Local's 2024 Class work to address? Short answer: Everything! Many of these issues are inter-connected. This year's community-based organizations preserve and elevate stories of local history, equip the next generation to be engaged civic leaders, cultivate vibrant regional food systems, and directly provide services and support across our region. Together, they work holistically to make Greater Washington more equitable, reminding us that collaboration strengthens our collective impact. Read on to learn about our issue categories and visit https://lnkd.in/e3XcjUXw to see the full list of nonprofit partners in our new 2024 Class!

What a great organization helping another great organization
St. Claire HealthCare is pleased to support local organizations with similar missions. On Monday, SCH President/CEO Donald H. Lloyd, II, and Mindy Highley, SCH Executive Director of Community Engagement and Philanthropy presented a $50,000 check to Bev Gilliam, Director of the Rowan County Christian Social Services to allow that organization to better address community needs. “St. Claire is honored to help organizations who share a vision of bettering the lives of the people of eastern Kentucky,” said Lloyd. “There is a tremendous need for the services provided by Christian Social Services in Rowan County and they are making a difference in our community every single day.”

As nonprofit leaders, we strengthen the fabric of neighborhoods by meeting real needs and creating communities where people find meaning and purpose. In a culture awash in loneliness, mission-driven nonprofits can be a place of belonging for staff members and clients alike. Read a few of my reflections on how we can create meaningful change together in the article linked in the comments!

Love your eye ❤️ Ainak is a Silicon Valley nonprofit, in providing free eye exams and prescription eyeglasses to the under-resourced children in California. Ainak's mission is a powerful commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in their educational journey due to the financial constraints of their parents or guardians in affording proper eye care. We believe in providing every child with the opportunity to achieve a 20/20 vision, recognizing that this not only supports their academic success but also cultivates the confidence necessary for them to thrive in life and pursue their dreams. The statistics further underscore the urgency and significance of our mission. A staggering 62 million Americans lack access to essential eye care and eyeglasses, creating a substantial gap in addressing visual health needs. Equally concerning is the fact that over 300,000 children commence their school year each September with vision impairment, underscoring the critical nature of our work. Alarming is the diagnosis of vision impairment in 1 in 3 preschool-aged children. This statistic emphasizes the crucial role Ainak plays in intervening at an early age to prevent not only immediate hindrances to learning but also to avert potentially severe eye health problems as these children mature.

We're a management consulting agency that works with nonprofits and philanthropies. We love doing the inner strategy-building, vision-creating, and infrastructure-refining. To do any of these tasks in a way that centers racial equity, our clients need a deep understanding of the systems that keep us from building equitable systems. All of our contracts include some form of political education to ground us in the true "why" of our work: collective liberation.
