This shows how circular economy and responsible sourcing don’t just reduce waste and support good health and wellbeing, but also reduce emissions – it’s all about interconnected systems. According to this report air freight was reduced by adjusting the critical path, and you can see from the graphic below how implementing even an initial form of circular economy and responsible sourcing has made a difference. I’ve always by nature been a systems thinker, and I’m an expert at implementing operating models and critical paths that improve efficiency, reduce lead times, and ensure key deadlines are achieved, reducing the need to air freight. I read this somewhere: “the ultimate design brief is sustainability”, and I’ve spent my career sourcing and developing raw materials and finished products to strict design briefs and price points. I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world working with suppliers of raw materials, finished products and services in Europe, Asia, and N Africa, and I understand the full value chain for apparel. Including, through my compliance, testing, and labelling experience, the impact of consumer after care and products going into landfill. Why I believe in "leading by example." If there's one thing I've learned in my career, it's that words are empty without action. I dislike quoting my own tracks, but "actions speak louder than words" (Sam Feldt - Show Me Love). If you want to inspire others to make a difference, you must show them how. Whether launching a sustainability initiative, championing a cause, or simply living a conscious lifestyle, every action we take can make an impact. So, how can we lead by example? Here are a few ways: 1. Put your money where your mouth is - invest (time and money) in companies that align with your values. Buy products from brands that align with your ethos. 2. Use your platform to raise awareness for important causes. Even if you have 100 followers, you can spread the word. 3. Incorporate sustainability practices into your daily life. Audit your lifestyle and use the 80/20 rule to see which changes impact you most. 4. Inspire and empower others to make a difference (for example, become a Heartfeldt Hero on Heartfeldt.org). Remember, leading by example isn't about being perfect - it's about taking small steps towards a better world. Let's all do our part.
