On July 18th, a group of engineering and chemistry students from the M.C. Gill Composites Center at USC toured our manufacturing facility in El Monte, CA, gaining valuable insights into our Research & Development and Operational processes for composite materials. Our company, established in 1947 by M.C. Gill, an alumnus of USC, has grown into a leading vertically integrated supplier in the aerospace sector, offering high-performance composite materials. We focus on: • Honeycomb core • Prepregs • Laminates • Composite sandwich panels We utilize manufacturing processes to fabricate a wide variety of composite parts installed throughout aircraft, and specialized processes to bond core assemblies that are installed into engines, nacelles and structural applications. We offer extensive value-added services, delivering fully assembled parts ready for direct installation in aircraft interiors. Many of the visiting students are part of the USC chapter of SAMPE, a globally recognized society dedicated to advancements in manufacturing and process engineering. The tour was guided by faculty mentors, Professors Steve Nutt from the engineering department and Travis Williams from the chemistry department.

The Gill Corporation has expanded its production capacity for aluminum honeycomb core - aluminum skin sandwich panels to accommodate the growing global demand. These semi-structural sandwich panels, named Gillfab® 4030, are manufactured using a proprietary epoxy adhesive to bond aluminum facings to aluminum honeycomb core. They are commonly used in aircraft interiors, including bulkheads, lavatories, galleys, and as structural components for various types of furnishings. The panels are known for their high strength-to-weight ratio and low heat release properties. The Gill Corporation's Maryland division manufactures the aluminum honeycomb core using 5052 and 5056 aluminum foils, available in various densities. The facings are made from 2024-T3 or 7075-T6 aluminum and can be processed in various finishes including bare, Alclad, Anodized, and Alodined.
