A soldier returns from deployment with stories no one will understand. These stories cover the range of human emotions: sadness, grief, loneliness, rage, despair, regret, and so on. When a veteran comes to #VeteransEquineAlliance (VEA) they will be gently coached to open up and tell their stories to the horse they decide to work with. Dan and I do not have to hear the conversation. This is a conversation between two beings who have been through similar - but different - experiences. Yet these two beings have everything in common. What can the horse offer? Healing, especially when the veteran returns for more sessions. We work with veterans in a way that uniquely meets their needs. What we do not do... is tell them what they need. Often a walk with their horse that involves no words is just what they need. Help us get the word out. VEA is available for all Wisconsin veterans and is free of charge. No horse experience is necessary. We are a non-riding horse program. Are you relocating to a new area? A few simple steps to prepare can make all the difference on move-in day. Paws of War recently hosted a reunion event for three soldiers who, for the first time since their deployment, were reunited with the dogs they cared for and rescued while serving overseas in Eastern Europe. The three soldiers traveled to Nesconset, NY from Colorado and Rhode Island to officially adopt these beloved animal friends. Paws of War is also raising awareness about the cost of Paws of War’s mission and effort to return 18 more dogs from the same overseas region. As part of its War-Torn Pups and Cats program, Paws of War recently rescued Ace, Shadow, Runtie and Racha from a military base in Eastern Europe, where they then safely travelled to the organization’s HQ in Nesconset. The four pups were struggling to survive without food and water before they were rescued by the three soldiers. Paws of War is currently on a mission to bring 18 more dogs home safely to the U.S. These four dogs are just a few of the more than 60 rescues of dogs and cats that Paws of War currently has underway around the world. These rescue missions cost thousands of dollars per animal. Remember helicopter parents? They excessively control every minute of their kids' lives. We all know one or two (and maybe we're recovering from this behavior ourselves). Hate to say it, but some agents can be just as overbearing, especially at open houses. This is a harrrrd no for me. When it comes to planning open houses with sellers, I live by one mantra: *Present but not pushy* I want sellers to feel confident that their open house will be warm and inviting, allowing guests to explore freely. Sure, I'm there if they need me, but I'm always in the background — friendly and welcoming but never intrusive. No need to do any time-consuming updates... instead focus on these quick fixes. 1) Add a fresh coat of neutral paint. 2) Spruce curb appeal by weeding, adding fresh mulch trimming bushes and cleaning the entry. 3) Professional carpet cleaning to remove odors. Feeling guilt can also be a healthy sign that you are a responsible person. Responsibility can take on many forms. Sometimes, we can produce feelings of guilt if we believe we could have done things differently in the past. The true test is to know if you should accept responsibility in others actions or not. If you should accept responsibility for their actions, then you have a clear path forward. If you shouldn't accept responsibility, boundaries are in order.
