This new high-resolution data from NOAA is useful across the board, but it is especially valuable for small- and mid-sized local governments that might not have the resources to independently secure such detailed data for planning purposes. Free and public availability of such data really lowers the bar for entry into the world of careful planning and analysis needed to adapt to changing coasts and climates. This is a great example of government empowering communities through provision of a public good. Kudos to NOAA for making this happen.
Excited for the new high resolution (1 meter) land cover data that are now available for the coastal zone. Phase one includes impervious, water bodies, and canopy layers. Pretty amazing detail -- I could see the trees in my backyard! This article highlights the multiple possible applications. https://lnkd.in/e6XHp6Sm
