Love Morgan Melancon's mindset and how she described the Nurse Residency program she built at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Problem: Downward trend with retaining first year nurses. They knew these nurses are looking for engagement and a sense of community. Solutions: 1. Provide shared experiences to give a sense of community. 2. Build confidence outside of work(how to find housing, finances, etc.) 3. SCALE!!! Amplify what's working well And what she said at the end speaks volumes to her work and mindset, "Don't be scared to try." Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gpeesCBw

She's often asked why she chose the specialty, the perks of being in long-term care, and the most valuable information someone interested in this specialty should know. In a survey at the Nursing Home, people over ninety were asked, "If you could live your life again, what would you do differently?" The three most common responses were: (1) I would spend more time with family and friends. (2) I would try more things and take more risks. (3) I would dedicate myself to something that would outlast me. Trivial matters often consume too much of our time, leading us to live by the wrong priorities. If you agree to every request, you'll never find time for what you're truly called to do. A life where everything happens is a life where nothing happens. Your greatest challenge is discretion and taking actions that ultimately matter.

We can all remember a time when someone's words hurt us. I have a lot of those memories from when I had to wear my headgear to school. In life, we often consider what not to say. But what about the #kind words we say to each other? One my friends recently reminded me of the importance of positive words, especially at work. Her feelings about her nursing career have been vastly improved simply by the presence of more encouraging, supportive words from her new manager and proactive patients. Today's article will discuss how kind words do matter and how they can impact others. Are your words making a difference in others' lives? https://lnkd.in/enF2ztyv #leadwithkindness #kindness #kindnesshabit

Last week my daughter’s preschool had a Community Hero themed week. Her teacher asked if I would come in and talk to the kids about being a nurse. It was the best. I brought my stethoscope for them to listen to their own hearts. They got to wear gloves and I made little finger splints for each of them. To be honest, I don’t always enjoy talking about being a nurse, or maybe it’s just the questions/comments that usually follow: ‘What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen?’ ‘ER’s are the worst. Everyone is so slow’ ‘Do you really see people die?’ But this, this was so fun. And their questions and comments never disappoint: ‘Do you take care of aliens?’ ‘Why do hospitals smell weird?’ We came up with stories for why they needed finger splints. We talked about why our hearts make that ‘bump bump’ sound. We made glove balloons. We talked about how sometimes hospitals can feel scary, and how it’s okay to ask doctors and nurses question about what is making us feel scared. My most favorite part of the morning was my daughter’s introduction: ‘This is my mommy and she is a NURSE. She helps people feel better and she’s really good at it.’ Wow. I didn’t think there was anything better than the feeling of being proud of your kids. But hearing my daughter talk proudly about me in that way about made my heart burst! 🩺 Taking my 13+ years of nursing experience and using it to assist in the legal field ⚖️ 📧 jessica.medina.lnc@gmail.com #expertwitness #legalnurseconsultant #medicalmalpractice #personalinjury #emergencyroomnurse #traumanurse #criticalcarenurse #nursesonlinkedin

WHAT IS IT? HAVEN'T YOU DONE ENOUGH? This was me two years ago... every day, I'd drag myself to nursing class, questioning my decision to pursue this course. The expenses were piling up, the long hours were taking a toll, the stress was overwhelming, and the endless studying was exhausting. All I saw was the negative - the financial burden, the time away from loved ones, the constant pressure to perform. But then, something shifted. My mentality changed when I started repeating these words to myself: "It's either I pass or I pass." And that's when everything clicked! I began to see nursing not just as a course, but as a way of life. I learned to prioritize my mental health, advocate for others, and cultivate sensitivity. I discovered that nursing is about caring deeply, and making a difference in people's lives. But I know I'm not alone in this journey. Many of us have been there - feeling overwhelmed, questioning our choices. So, I ask you: Haven't you done enough? No, we haven't! There's always room to grow, learn, and thrive. Let's share our experiences and support each other! In the comments below, tell me: What was your "aha" moment in nursing school? How do you prioritize self-care amidst the chaos? What's the most valuable lesson you've learned in your nursing journey? Let's keep shining, and remember... it's either we pass or we pass! #NursingLife #NursingStudent #MentalHealthMatters #SelfCare #PassionOverPaycheck #NursingJourney

Compassion in healthcare is indeed a powerful force that transcends mere technical skills. 💖 It's the warmth and empathy that truly make a difference in patient care. 🏥 When healthcare professionals go beyond their technical expertise to connect with patients on a human level, they create an environment of trust and comfort. 🌟 Let's celebrate the compassion and dedication of those who make a profound impact on the lives of others every day. #HealthcareHeroes #EmpathyInMedicine #PatientCare
“I would hear time and time again about elements of compassion when they talked about having the best nurse or having an amazing physician,” he said. “I would sort of ask them, ‘What makes that physician, that nurse, that social worker, so amazing? And inevitably, it boiled down to things like, ‘They’re just a really warm human being.’…Sinclair tried to be precise in his definition of compassion. In the report, the term is defined as “a virtuous response that seeks to address the suffering and needs of a person through relational understanding and action….To Sinclair, it means empathy — the ability to understand the interior experience of someone else — powered by a desire to help alleviate their struggle.” https://lnkd.in/gqFskK6s
