Finally we see UK making necessary steps towards #sustainability. We strongly hope and support #organic incentives as the existing in the past there was a lot of environmental damage by pesticides particularly on bees and soil biodiversity. 🌿 Embracing Nature: The Rise of Organic Farming in the UK Over the past decade, the UK has seen a transformative shift towards organic farming. This shift is not just about food production; it’s a profound movement towards environmental stewardship and biodiversity conservation. 🐝 The Bee Revolution: How Organic Farming is Saving Our Pollinators One of the most remarkable impacts of organic farming has been on our bee population. Bees, crucial pollinators for many crops and wild plants, have faced drastic declines due to pesticide use and habitat loss. However, organic farming, with its ban on synthetic pesticides and focus on habitat diversity, has become a sanctuary for bees. The results are clear: a study shows a significant increase in bee populations in organic farms compared to conventional ones. 🌱 Soil Biodiversity: The Unsung Hero of Ecosystem Health Soil is not just dirt. It’s a living, breathing ecosystem crucial for plant growth and carbon sequestration. Organic farming practices, such as crop rotation, composting, and avoiding chemical fertilizers, have been instrumental in enhancing soil biodiversity. Healthy soils are teeming with beneficial microbes, fungi, and insects, contributing to more resilient ecosystems and better crop yields. 📈 The Impact: Over the decades, organic farming in the UK has grown from a niche market to a significant force in the agricultural sector. This growth reflects a societal shift towards sustainability and environmental responsibility. The benefits are evident: healthier soils, thriving bee populations, and a positive impact on the overall ecosystem. 💡 Join the Green Revolution As we continue to face environmental challenges, the role of organic farming in ecosystem health cannot be overstated. Mercy Corps AgriFrin is supporting Farm to Market Alliance to educate farmers on the importance of practicing Climate Smart Agriculture. Judith Munyasa, one of the farmers from Bungoma County narrates her story in a voice resonating with the strength of someone deeply connected to the land she tills. Her story begins in a community facing a crisis—a climate altering; trees vanishing, and farming practices struggling to sustain but ends with her farm becoming a classroom. "My dream is to continue empowering farmers," she asserts, "I trained over 800 farmers, sharing the knowledge that transformed my land. "Her teachings echoed the wisdom gained from Farm to Market Alliance, revolutionizing the agricultural landscape and empowering the community. " Through CA, IPM, ISFM and agroforestry," Judith explains, "my yields soared. My harvest has increased by 150% since adopting these practices." The increased yield wasn't just on paper. Judith's income mirrored her bountiful harvests. "My income tripled," she states, her voice filled with satisfaction. "It's not just about profit; it's about stability for my family and my community." In Judith's narrative, the story isn't just about farming; it's about sowing seeds of change. Her dedication to Sustainable CSA practices, education, and community empowerment embodies a vision for a greener, more sustainable future. A shout out to actor, author, woodworker, and Minooka native Nick Offerman, who “gets down and dirty for regenerative agriculture” in this campaign by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). The video is a great explainer of the importance of cover crops, which help build healthier soil, conserve natural resources, sequester carbon, and reduce nutrient runoff and erosion. The Agroecology + Innovation Matters initiative is supporting farmers in these improvements here in Illinois. https://lnkd.in/gca44TmX Video Source: Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) #AIMillinois #TakeAIM #conservation #illinoisagriculture #sustainablefarming #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativefarming #regenerativefarm #agvocacy #agriculture #farmer #illinois #farmersofillinois #sustainability #covercrops #soilhealth #farming #farm #agriculturelife #soil

After a long period of uncertainty, we welcome the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' announcement on ELM 2024, particularly the role out of support for #agroforestry. ⬇ 🌳 #Trees are an important tool in helping to create resilient #farming systems whilst tackling the nature and climate crises. 👩🌾 In response to our concern that ELM was lacking ambition, we are pleased to see new premium payments for actions with the biggest environmental impact. This will hopefully incentivise #farmers to adopt some wide-reaching #NatureFriendlyFarming practices on their land. ⚠ However, we are cautious that ELM is becoming increasingly complex, and the future of the scheme's budgets are uncertain. 🤝 It is vital that we all work with farmers to help them take up what is on offer and make a tangible difference. 👉 Read our full statement here: https://bit.ly/48npzC2 #OFC24
