Thrive is an incubator for community solutions. Our current issues meet specific criteria: They involve working with the local government. They affect equity issues in our community. They have something to do with the effects of growth and change in our community. Both tourism and affordable housing are causes and effects of the changes in our community and they require collaboration with local government and other sectors. Thrive’s work is to convene, collaborate, and support in ways that make a sizable impact. Learn more about Thrive’s work at thriveavl.org

Community First, Always: The Power of Prioritizing People Over Progress By Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat In an age where progress and technology often overshadow the importance of human connections, it's crucial to remember that putting our communities first should always be our priority. "Community First, Always" isn’t just a catchphrase; it's a guiding principle that can transform our approach to both personal and collective growth. Focusing on community means fostering environments where every voice is heard and valued. It means investing in local initiatives, supporting small businesses, and creating opportunities for collaboration. When we prioritize the well-being of those around us, we build stronger, more resilient societies. This approach not only enhances our collective quality of life but also drives sustainable development that benefits everyone. By embracing a community-first mindset, we ensure that our advancements and achievements contribute to the greater good, rather than just individual success. It’s about creating a legacy of mutual support and shared prosperity. Let’s commit to leading with empathy and inclusivity, making every decision with the betterment of our communities at the forefront. In a recent project, 81% of community members said they didn't attend in-person events for a new local planning application. But why? 🚫 Many people were unaware of the events, highlighting the need for better publicity ⏰ Time constraints, particularly due to work, were also a major barrier emphasising the need for flexibility and a variety of engagement methods. 😐 Some felt that their participation wouldn't make a difference, which indicates to us the need for transparency and consistency in communication. Community engagement is important in order to build projects that reflect the needs and wants of local community members. By addressing these barriers, it ensures that everyone has a voice in the planning process. #Tech #PropTech #TechForGood #Community #Consultation #Technology #CommunityEngagement #Future #RealEstate #Environment #Sustainable #SocialImpact #BCorp

We know that in-person events have a valuable place in the consultation mix, especially for some groups within the community, but looking at these results there is a clear need for something beyond that.. Digital engagement is a solution for the challenges detailed here: 👁 Driving awareness across the broader community with digital marketing ⌚Capturing the attention of the community where they are, at a time that suits them 🤝Building rapport through understanding the representative community perspective and being able to make decisions in consideration of their needs/preferences Digital engagement taps into the masses, who usually wouldn't have the time, means (or energy!) to engage in other methods.

January is always a time for reflection and planning the year ahead. This year is no different. It's time to brainstorm the big ideas, set audacious goals, and cook up strategies that will catapult us to new heights. We experienced achievements because of your trust and investment in us. Your support has fueled our success, and we can't thank you enough. In 2023, MEDCO completed more than 100 business visits to ensure proactive support of the local community employers and employees. During these visits, we learned that almost two-thirds of respondents saw an increase in sales and that forty percent indicated plans to expand or modernize. As our resilient business community overcame new and lingering challenges in 2023, our team remained committed to driving competitive advantage for local businesses and for Marion. As an organization, MEDCO exists to be a leader in economic development by driving the competitive advantages of Marion. But community development is a collective effort, so we engage many strategic partners such as the Marion Chamber of Commerce, Uptown Marion, and the City of Marion who support our standards and best practices. Sharing ideas and knowledge to enrich all our stakeholders. In 2024, we want to continue to strengthen these relationships and through them, increase the value to our community. MEDCO will lead in promoting the many assets of our community for outward marketing to attract new industry, draw additional commercial development, support the expansion of existing businesses, foster a locally grown workforce, and continue to support in the creation of amenities that makes Marion such a special place to live, work, and play. 𝐈𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒, 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧: - Owner-occupied workforce housing solutions - More proactive targeted industry recruitment - Community-wide visioning and planning - Commercial development attraction - Business retention and expansion efforts - Regional workforce initiatives Let's make 2024 another year of remarkable growth and success!
