Poly(acrylic acid) hydrogels embedded with lithium chloride demonstrate effective moisture absorption and self-release of liquid water at room temperature in 50–90% relative humidity. This innovative approach involves surface and bulk release stages, influenced by factors like salt concentration, hydrogel properties, and film thickness. Introduction of hydrophobic domains enhances droplet growth rates, and patterning these domains guides water movement, achieving a threefold increase in water removal rate. For many years, the membrane treatment industry has relied on single-component chemicals like citric acid, sodium hypochlorite, and caustic for MF/UF hollow-fiber systems. While these cleaners can be seen as a cost-effective solution, they often lead to hidden costs such as: Slower and less effective cleaning performance that leads to repeated chemical use to recover performance to baseline levels, increases in membrane replacement, and greater system downtime. They fail to recover the desired transmembrane pressures (TMPs), which can lead to an increase in cleaning frequency. The membrane foulant becomes less and less responsive to single-component chemical cleans, causing membrane performance to decline rapidly after only a few years; this often leads to premature membrane replacement. HawJie Membrane sheets and elements without any chlorination treatment for long-term stable desalination performance. Residual chlorine or other oxidizing agents can impair membrane performance, but many membrane manufacturers treat membrane elements with active chlorine before delivery in order to achieve excellent initial performance, achieving a short term performance boost, but a rapid long term performance decline.
