* Approved: NCTCOG Broadband as a Transportation Mode Program * A momentous step toward Digital Equity for North Texas occurred yesterday. Our Regional Transportation Council (RTC) for North Texas has claimed equal access to the internet as a transportation mode and encourages various activities to achieve that goal. Just as we connect residents to life activities in the physical space, so to do we achieve this in the virtual space. Access to high-speed internet to meet with doctors, go to school and participate in the workforce is no different than hopping in your car and physically traveling to these resources. To get us started, the RTC approved our staff to tackle underlying issues associated with broadband data in our region and regional coordination of the public implementation of infrastructure and digital navigation programs. Please see the following links below. On each link, the broadband item is number 7. The information item precedes the action item with a detailed explanation of public sector broadband involvement, followed by a rich discussion between RTC members. The action item outlines our steps to achieve regional resilience through Four Proposed Elements of broadband needs. FBA VP of Public Policy Marissa Mitrovich led a panel of experts to explore BEAD and other federal broadband policy and how they impact broadband deployments. They noted it is important that the economics of federal programs like BEAD are more reasonable. A lot of resources are already being spent just evaluating these programs, so there are more layers of complexity that need to be factored in. Speakers included Chris Champion from C Spire, Melissa Mann from Lumen Technologies, Cristina Chou from Altice USA, and Rhonda Johnson from AT&T. #fc24 #fiberconnect24
