Sometimes, what got you there won't get you where you want to go. Good advice in business, and good advice in going for it on 4th down. So, now the teams are set and I've picked my team for the Big Game. Here's some more good advice: Send in your nomination for this week's Nice Guy/Gal Awards. Every Friday, I’ll share nominations for people who have been identified as nice guys (and gals). If you want to nominate someone, just shoot me a private message by 5:00 EDT this Thursday. There are only 3 requirements: 1) you have to be connected to the person you nominate 2) you can only nominate one person per week 3) you can’t nominate yourself 😀 If you want to provide a brief reason for your selection, that’s great, but it’s not a requirement. Let’s recognize people who make a difference simply by being nice. Have a great day, everyone. https://lnkd.in/eY55XpTq #network #sportsbiz #people #niceguy #networking #sportsmarketing

Well, that game certainly didn't disappoint. And the market wasn't bad either. It still remains to be seen whether the powers that be (i.e., the casino owners) want Vegas to host another #SuperBowl, but it seems to have been a great day/weekend/week in Sin City. Let's have another great week by starting it with opening nominations for the Nice Guy/Gal Awards. Every Friday, I’ll share nominations for people who have been identified as nice guys (and gals). If you want to nominate someone, just shoot me a private message by 5:00 EDT on Thursday. Let's try this again. Last week, we didn't have any #niceguy nominations, so I'm hopeful we'll have some great ones this week to make up for it. I know we have a holiday weekend coming up here in the US, so if you have time to give a shout out before you take off for the unofficial start of summer that would be great. Every Friday, I’ll share nominations for people who have been identified as nice guys (and gals). If you want to nominate someone, just shoot me a private message by 5:00 EST Thursday. Patience and perseverance is grossly underestimated! Extremely smart and intelligent team members tend to loose the initial value they bring when they dont have these two qualities and averagely smart team members with little or no skills, but with a high level of patience, perseverance and commitment to growing tend to acquire all the skills and intelligence they need and become extremely valuable to a team over time! Patience and perseverance is grossly underestimated! Always better to Play the long term game!
Found this video and it made me want to share this reminder. There is no such thing as overnight success. Everyone you see thriving today has invested countless hours to hone their skills and sharpen their craft. Serena Williams won her first Grand Slam in 1999 after playing professionally for five years. If she had given up in her second year, she wouldn’t be the icon she is today. Play the long game.

Before you take any job or work with any potential colleague, it’s important to consider if you admire the people in the organization. When I think about the best experiences in my career, they have always been working with people who I thought were better than me. When I was a soccer player the one thing I always tried to do, especially when I was young, was to play with people who had a lot more experience than I did. It forced me to think faster, to exert maximum effort, and, particularly when I was smaller and slower and younger than them, it forced me to use my mind more effectively and to think clearer about the choices I made. I am convinced the same thing goes for who you work with, and when I reflect on those past moments of flow and think back to the times when I knew we were absolutely flying, I was surrounded by people I admired for their work ethic, raw talent, lack of ego, and who they were, fundamentally. I wanted to be more like them, and it encouraged an environment of accountability that forced everyone to up their game. While I know I will always be striving to be better, it was these environments that motivated me to be the best version of myself, to be reliable, and to show up for those around me emotionally, spiritually, and to carry as much workload as I thought I could handle, and then a little bit more. I can unequivocally say that it was in those environments where we also had the most success. So, when you’re about to choose who to work with or what to work on, reflect on this. Is this the team to do it? Do you want to be more like them? Would you feel guilty for not showing up completely? I often think back to the Tim Duncan San Antonio Spurs. Sure, the Spurs aren’t great now, but at one point they showed us what true greatness looks like. A team in perfect harmony. This is how you win!

Driving impact through thoughtful internal and external communications. Storyteller + strategist. Good egg.
As an internal communicator, here are three quick key takeaways for executives from Ryan Gosling’s exhilarating #Oscars performance last night. Take note (and tell me what you’d add)! 🕺If you’re there, BE there. Show your audience you’re in it with them, whether it’s a celebration or a reckoning. Ryan was invested in the performance from the jump. He looked like there was absolutely no place he would rather be – every wink, every smirk, every gesture and facial expression contributed to that vibe. This, of course, is easier to do when it’s positive (e.g., great quarterly results, a game-changing client win, preparing to go public). But even when it’s not (e.g., layoffs), you can’t look like you’d rather be doing anything else. Employees deserve the respect you give when you show up as the steadiest, most committed and present version of yourself. 🕺Graciously incorporate others. When this song kicked off, Ryan was sitting behind Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig – a powerful visual reminder of the two most important players in the movie and an unspoken callback to the song's title, “I’m Just Ken.” In the corporate world, look for ways to nod to others. Ask a non-leader to present something relevant or share a lesson. Give a verbal shoutout to people who are crushing it. Let others take the lead on some key parts of a meeting. Ask a question that's a layup. 🕺Do the unexpected. The performance was already fun (That pink sparkly suit! I swoon!) but then we see Slash? Okaaaay…I didn’t have that on my Oscars bingo card but how cool. Playing to your crowd and injecting something unanticipated can be a really lovely touch (again, always in the right context). Think about ways to bring energy, commitment and focus to your audience – and you’ll always be Kenough. #oscars #barbie #ryangosling #internalcomms #executivecommunication https://lnkd.in/dzF3Suum

Scottie Scheffler is really good at golfing. And as he wakes up to see another green jacket hanging in his closet, Caitlin Clark wakes up for the last time not being the #1 pick in the WNBA draft.
