WORK THIS GOOD CAN EVEN MAKE ALCOPOPS SEEM COOL I first saw this ad 24 years ago (TWENTY-FOUR!) and it feels as fresh on last watch as it did on the first. A TV ad for the alcopop ‘Metz’ from the much lauded and sadly missed agency, HHCL. https://lnkd.in/e7-UeVZU I’ve always been grateful to three people for teaching me, as a humble strategist, the true value of craft - Paul Jordan, Clare Donald and Chris Groom. How the right music, editing, casting, set or pacing can turn a brilliant idea into an unforgettable one. The dissolve transitions on this, the arri cameras...oh, swoon....I think this was al young, but someone might tell me otherwise. And while I'm swooning. That endline. That v/o. That beautiful pace. Oh, it’s a marvel. This ad is a masterclass. It bears watching repeatedly to marvel in the detail. Some call outs go to Enda Mccallion for the directing, Glassworks for production and finally the immenseness that is that alicia suszka-fielder voice-over. And if nothing else, let us applaud a brilliant, empowering and inspirational client who could give an agency this level of licence to execute something so unique. Beware the other types of clients, my friends, whether the moon is fat, thin or somewhere in between. #creative #creativity #marketing #creative #agencies #agencyvoices #judders

My 18 year old's favorite band is AJR (or maybe it's a tie between AJR and Weezer - both great choices). This is a little 8-ish minute "documentary" (part 2) of their current tour. I'll tell you why I like it. It starts off with problems/conflict/the issues that come up putting on a tour. People are stressed. There's tension. But it's because everyone wants to put on an amazing show. It shows how one problem can spool out into many problems. But that there are people around that, if they apply their skills, can fix the issues and get the show launched. And nearing the end of this video, we get a bunch of reasons WHY the show is important, and it's definitely not because of the band. It's important because the people the band SERVES really need what AJR offers, and that AJR needs the people who work with them to put on the tour to do amazing work so that AJR can deliver magical results. I had a front-row seat to a version of how this can/should/must work in my own job today. I wasn't AJR. I was one of the people trying to unsnag the stuck ropes of work stuff so that my boss could deliver the magic hundreds and hundreds of people and their families are counting on him to perform for their benefit. Sounds like I'm patting my back right now. I'm not. I'm saying that if you've got a magic maker like AJR, or my magic maker RJW, you'd better WANT to be there fixing the problems and smoothing out the challenges so that the people they/he serve(s) can do what people are hoping to see happen. It's about helping the magic happen, when we're doing it right. https://lnkd.in/eRhNCrzy
