3 Tips for Hiring the Perfect Event Photographer Partnering with an event photographer shouldn’t be hard. Today we’ll cover 3 tips to help ensure success. 1️⃣Build a Shot List Developing a shot list ensures the important parts of your events are covered. Make a list of key people, narratives, presentations, and other moments that you absolutely want to be captured. A photographer who understands the event’s agenda and story will capture images that align with your vision. 2️⃣Opt for Fast Turnaround In most cases, you will need a small batch of images to share on social media right after the event. We call these “highlight images”. Speak with your photographer about turnaround time, if highlights are post-processed, and other expectations. This should be outlined in the contract. If your event is multi-day, we recommend having the same conversation to ensure daily deliverables. P.S. Most photographers fall into a particular niche either by accident or design. They target or start getting booked for a particular type of job then gain more experience of that industry leading to more work and experience, and before long they've become specialists. 🥼 And because 80% of business comes from 20% of clients, that’s where they tend to stay. There are a few exceptions. Some of my photographer connections on LinkedIn have completely changed niches and become very successful. 🧑🏻🍜 20 years ago, I changed from shooting news and features for newspapers and magazines to capturing interiors of beautiful holiday homes and hotels, which I now do exclusively. The best part is - I feel like I've really been there… I have to admit - I've been critical about remote photoshoots before, dismissing them as “just phone photos.” However, to be honest with you - “just a phone” surpassed traditional kit cameras some years ago, and it's not just about that… A good picture, for me, is one that evokes feelings and tells a story. It requires knowledge about light, composition, and angles. So, the more I dive into remote photoshoots, the more I understand that it demands more expertise than just taking a selfie and sometimes more then working at the studio where everything is just perfect. #Remotephotography serves one of my main business and personal values - efficiency. Besides that, a remote photoshoot is simple, fast, and provides professional results you can use on your social media to keep your professional profile up to date wherever you are.
