When I was recently contacted by the PRCA to recommit to our pledge on paying interns, it made me wonder: what sort of company does not pay interns? We have had a fully salaried intern recruitment position annually for more than a decade and have used this globally to bring in lots of interns to the business and to train them either to stay with us (great) or to move on in their careers. We've had the pleasure of paying interns to learn their trade with us, and have provided a great springboard for other businesses to benefit from the training we give our staff if they move on later. This is a win/win for us, for interns, for future employers. Why would anyone not pay a fair salary to somebody who is working for their organization? Personally I do not feel it is fair to ask anyone to work for our business without payment for their services. I guess when all companies pay, it will be more of a level paying field, but if companies continue not to pay, there is a continued expectation that this is about 'taking advantage'. We've employed a great cohort of interns over the years, and I would be embarrassed to have taken advantage of their wish to 'get on the ladder'. So The Scott Partnership Ltd has only ever paid its interns and will continue to do so into the future. #internships #intern #B2Bmarketing #B2BPR PRWeek
We’re proud to support PRCA and PRWeek UK’s campaign to end unpaid internships. We have always made it a company policy to pay anyone who works for us, and our #intern programme – in place for more than a decade – was an inevitable place to implement this. As a business we proudly bring interns in as part of our employment and growth strategy, and anyone who works for the business is paid accordingly. Clients pay us, we pay staff. That is the way in our world. This has been a long-standing business belief, and we are proud to support PRCA and PRWeek in this area. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dq-KMR2J

Introducing Ida Hugander, one of our interns, who is spending her summer working with the Analysys Mason team in Sweden. We caught up with her to see how her experience has been so far: Q: What was your most significant learning experience during your internship? Ida: It was working on a report about the Swedish mobile market. I updated data for the major operators and analysed recent trends and regulations in the sector. Additionally, I reviewed the results of the 2023 spectrum auction and identified key takeaways. Although I was initially unfamiliar with the TMT sector, I embraced the challenge and gained a deeper understanding of its complexities. This project not only expanded my knowledge but also enhanced my proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Q: Can you describe a project or task you’re particularly proud of? Ida: I am particularly proud of my contribution to a project on equality and sustainability. I conducted research, reached out to potential contacts, and assisted with PowerPoint presentations. The project's goal was to promote equality in the bioeconomy sector. Being part of Analysys Mason’s efforts in these critical areas was incredibly rewarding, as I had the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change. Q: What skills have you developed or improved during your internship? Ida: I deepened my understanding of the tech and telecoms industries and their societal impact. Additionally, I significantly enhanced my technical skills in tools such as PowerPoint and Excel. Q: What have you enjoyed most about working with your colleagues? Ida: I have truly enjoyed the welcoming and supportive atmosphere among my colleagues. From day one, I felt included and valued, which greatly enriched my experience. Engaging in discussions with my colleagues further enhanced my learning journey. Q: What advice would you give to future interns? Ida: Embrace this opportunity for professional growth. Approach your tasks with confidence and don’t hesitate to ask for help!

The Cincinnati CIO Roundtable in partnership with INTERalliance hosted our annual intern summit at NKU earlier this week, and once I again I got to spend lunch talking with groups of really impressive interns from organizations throughout the greater Cincinnati area. As always, I was blown away by the energy, engagement, and thoughtful questions that the attendees asked. Here are three takeaways: 1. A lot of young folks need to see us being human. Every year, I talk about being an introvert, challenging myself to get out of my shell, and about techniques I used to intentionally handle social situations better. Every year interns light up when they hear that and ask question after question based on their own experiences. If you get the chance, talk about how you've grown, how it felt, and where you struggled. 2. A lot of our careers look like a fixed path from outside. Attendees were often relieved to hear about lateral paths and how broad experiences tended to help the senior IT folks in the room progress in our careers. 3. We need to create more opportunities for teenagers and early career folks to gain access to people at every level of our organizations for conversations like these! And most importantly - if there's not something like this in your area yet, it's worth doing: https://lnkd.in/eN_abKNE Big thanks to Geoff Smith and Gregory Simpson for their role in making this happen!

Even a short trip abroad can be impactful. But for those .1% of college students who get international work experience each year, it's eye-opening and life-changing. The daily logistics of navigating a new city in a foreign language and culture - whether commuting, grocery shopping, and of course getting to work early for a meeting - requires critical thinking, problem-solving, and most importantly a self-belief and self-confidence. It's real and it's empowering. From there, you are asked to show up every day ready to tackle a real problem that local entrepreneurs dedicate their life to solving. In the process, you work with diverse teams from different backgrounds and perspectives. It's hard. But the outcome is unbelievably rewarding. Madison worked for a corporate health/wellness company, Frizzant, that offers yoga and health food catering. She'll undoubtedly go on to impress prospective employers for whom Madison will stand out as part of the .1%. We need to get far more students to gain global experience before they enter the global workforce, however we can.
Featuring Day in the life of an intern in Barcelona by Madison King, Sage Corps alumni, she interned abroad at Frizzant as a marketing intern. When asked how she felt on her first few weeks as an intern, she has this to say “New ideas sprout everyday, and it's easy to get lost in all the new projects were trying to start at one time. However to integrate, I followed a few of them on social media. I also try my best to speak in Spanish to them, which they appreciated and allowed them to warm up to me easier.” We are past the summer deadline, but still accepting applications on a rolling basis. Start your application and move quickly on next steps to go abroad this summer: https://lnkd.in/gpihCfZw #sagecorps #internabroad
