As a seasoned digital marketer who is also very passionate about fashion, I decided to expand my knowledge and enroll in Parsons Fashion Business Essentials program. As part of the fashion business coursework, we were tasked with creating timeline on a fashion brand of our choice. The guidelines included representing the brand's history fully and thoroughly, to include its highs and lows, and to pay attention to historical happenings outside of fashion such as music and politics. My first thought was to do the assignment on a high-fashion brand, but the latter part of the guidelines inspired me to take a different direction. What brand aligns with our modern cultural history, is so distinctive of certain music and subculture movements, and represents political opposition, independence, and non-conformity? Dr Martens. So, considering that, the choice was a no brainer. Additionally, I must say, having just come from a job involving music, it was really cool to see just how deeply engrained music is to Dr Martens' brand identity and success. Take a look yourself. Had a BLAST talking about all things personal branding at North Carolina State University SKEMA Business School today. I challenged myself this year to get in front of more in person audiences, and do more structured lectures. We talked about: - Color Theory / Psychology - The Halo Effect - Clothing Choices & Self Esteem Clothing and fashion (including color, brands, fit, etc) plays an important role in first impressions and perception. When building a brand once you're aware of these different factors, you can leverage them to make intentional choices to position yourself strategically.
