What do Amazon, General Electric and PWFAS have in common? They all collaborate with universities. It’s not just major corporations who are benefiting from strategic relationships with institutions of higher education, early-stage smaller companies can cultivate these relationships too. Generally, universities embrace these strategic relationships as they provide internship and employment opportunities for their students. Faculty members, students, alumni, and the businesses all share knowledge and provide networking opportunities that create mutual competitive advantages. PWFAS Family Archive Services is proud to have created a close relationship with The University of North Alabama (UNA) whereby each entity benefits from the resources and expertise of the other. We offer valuable opportunities for students to gain real world experience through internships, while in return, the University provides access to thought leadership, knowledge, expertise, and emerging talent. We would like our shared commitment to the local community to be an example of what can be achieved when small businesses engage with their local institutions of higher education. In the spirit of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday today, I wanted to share the following information about the FAA Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) Internship (*PAID*) Program. MSI schools are institutions of higher education with minority student enrollment exceeding 50% as defined by the Department of Education.   The application process opens on January 16, 2024, and closes February 2, 2024.  Students can sign up for webinars to learn about the program and application process, which is HIGHLY recommended.     Please share with students attending MSI Schools, see MSI school classifications below: * Historically Black Colleges or Universities * Hispanic Serving Institutions * Tribal College or Universities * Alaska Native Serving Institutions * Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions * Predominantly Black Institutions * Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions * Native American Serving Nontribal Institutions Important Note:   It appears the FAA’s “eligible undergraduate and graduate college students attending an accredited college or university” language is in conflict with the Department of Education, the governing agency for the MSI Intern Program. Also the addition of “eligible undergraduate and graduate college students” to include “Persons with Disabilities, Student Veterans and Women”, appears to be a violation of the federal law. Persons with Disabilities, Student Veterans, and Women are a subset of “eligible undergraduate and graduate college students”, not an eligible stand-alone group. Hopefully, this conflict will be addressed by the FAA in the near future to avoid current or future conflicts with the program.     About the FAA MSI Internship Program and Application Information: https://lnkd.in/gy6XzcB7 Department of Educations Overview of the MSI Internship program https://lnkd.in/gsRWJYuS List of MSI School: https://lnkd.in/ggNmGtQe #hbcu #internships #hispanic #asianamerican #nativeamerican #nativeamerican #faa #outreach  

Later this month, I will be starting a teaching internship one night a week at a local college as part of my Capstone before earning my graduate degree next Spring. I am fond of the quote "It is never too late to become who you might have been". This post includes 7 lessons for a happy life for people aged 60+. Last week, the American Opportunity Index released a first-of-a-kind ranking of the top 50 employers that can offer recent high school graduates with the best pathway to a sustaining career and increased compensation. As traditional colleges falter in an evolving education and employment landscape, more Gen Z & Gen A are realizing the viability of jumping directly from high school to career training. And many brands are catching on, offering young employees a more flexible, and reactive education and training curriculum - one that not only leaves young people without debt, but also provides a much better chance of full time employment. 💡 One example? AT&T offering young people nano degree certifications, virtual internships, GEDs, and an internship program specifically for students from unique backgrounds and underrepresented communities. It’s wise to secure commitments early, before teachers become inundated with requests in the fall. I read a lot of posts from a lot of colleges and universities. How about this for one from a professor at a smaller university: I met with 10+ incredible students already this week who have at least two semesters of school left and each has had multiple internships and has multiple FT offers. There are many more in our program who also have these things but I only talked to these folks over the past four days. These students have worked TIRELESSLY to get thru their classes (w ogres like me) and work as interns, often while also taking classes. They should be celebrated very publicly and high school students should be looking to them as role models for exactly how to generate positive ROI w their degree programs. I contend that parents care more about ROI for their kids in college than anything else (other than health/safety obviously) but I don't see many schools talking about it. Well, I'm talking about it. Why don't colleges market ROI more directly?
