🌟 Introducing the Indigenous Culture Learning & Practice Committee at TRIEC!🌟 In continuation of our commitment to reconciliation, we are officially launching the Indigenous Culture Learning & Practice Committee at TRIEC, building on the foundation that has been in place for some time. While this committee has been in place, we are now renewing and strengthening its focus to further deepen our understanding and respect for Indigenous cultures, histories, and contributions. Through this revamp, we aim to drive greater awareness within TRIEC and extend this knowledge to our employer partners, promoting more inclusive practices in the workplace. The committee’s updated objectives include: - Knowledge Enhancement - Deep Dive into History and Contemporary Issues - Broadening Awareness - Community Engagement - Continuous Learning and Feedback At TRIEC, we remain committed to reconciliation and inclusion, both within our organization and across the broader community. We will continue to share updates, learning resources and opportunities as we move forward on this journey to drive meaningful change and create lasting impact. #IndigenousAwareness #TRIEC #Inclusion #Reconciliation #DiversityEquityInclusion

Our 2022-23 Annual Report provides a progress update as we strive towards genuine First Nations Inclusion. While our progress is positive, we know there is still a lot to learn and we are grateful for the openess and trust shown to us. The report notes, among many other actions, that: ➕ We welcomed Caroline Williams, a Yamatji woman, as Engagement Manager (First Nations) to strengthen our internal capability. 💡 We supported a critical Indigenous-led and co-designed project to understand needs and develop First Nations Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways in mine closure and transitions. ✏ The 'Collaborative planning in the Latrobe Valley' project began, with local Traditional Owner organisation involvement and plans for a First Nations-led Indigenous Reference Panel during Stage 2. 💻 The world-first Mass Open Online Course on 'Mine Closure and Sustainable Transitions' includes a specific module on Indigenous cultural values. We also made the decision to support a free, open online course to improve accessibility to First Nations and regional communities. 🔎 We supported engagement with Indigenous businesses to inform the landmark 'Enabling mine closure and transitions: Opportunities for Australian industry' report. Last week, we unveiled the findings of the 2024 Board Diversity Index report, a collaborative effort between Watermark Search International and the Governance Institute of Australia. The event, hosted by Business Sydney and MinterEllison, heard from insightful speakers who shed light on the importance of diversity in boardrooms and its impact on organisational success. Special thanks to the MC, Paul Nicolaou, from Business Sydney and to Governance Institute Chair, Pauline Vamos, who facilitated the discussions. For the past five years, Governance Institute of Australia has collaborated with Watermark on this report, advocating for better governance practices across all sectors. We believe that data is just the beginning; there's still much to be done in fostering diversity and inclusion beyond gender. It's not just about ticking boxes; it's about driving strategic growth and innovation. Corporate Australia must rise to the challenge of reporting broader diversity measures, encompassing cultural, LGBTQI+, and disability inclusion. While it's a challenging journey, the rewards of diverse leadership are immense, paving the way for more effective decision-making and sustained competitiveness. NAIDOC Week commemorates the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. BG&E stands among over 1,100 organisations committed to reconciliation through the RAP program, a framework supporting the national reconciliation movement since 2006. Through our Reflect RAP, BG&E deepens its understanding and actively contributes to the five dimensions of reconciliation: race relations, equality and equity, institutional integrity, unity, and historical acceptance. By engaging in NAIDOC Week activities like cultural events and initiatives showcasing Indigenous art, BG&E honours First Nations people's heritage and fosters greater cultural understanding within our workplace and the broader community. This commitment lays a robust foundation for future RAPs and reconciliation efforts, playing a pivotal role in advancing Australia's reconciliation journey.
