👏🏾 Congratulations Aurel Ruben Mäder, Daniel Gatica-Perez and Lakmal Meegahapola for this 🌟𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨🌟. We celebrate with you your dedication to sustainable research. 🚀 An honor that this award was given to two out of 1058 accepted papers at the conference. 📕 In their paper "𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙩𝙖: 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘼𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘿𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨", the winning team analyzed the social context (whether a person is alone or not) of young adults in five countries using smartphone data to determine if social context can be inferred from sensor data and how well these inferences generalize across different countries. 🌐 The research compared country-specific models to a multi-country model, finding that while country-specific models performed slightly better, hybrid models were also effective. These findings suggest that mobile health apps, smart homes, and wearable devices can leverage these models to enhance user experience by adapting to whether a user is alone or with others. 📊 The study underscores the importance of incorporating diverse data to create robust systems that can adapt to various social contexts globally. Lakmal is a Postdoctoral Researcher at our lab, advised by Prof. Catherine Jutzeler. 🙌🏾 Great job!

We are making significant strides with our project ‘REinforce – Resource-efficient Electrical Energy Converters through Locally Reinforced Permanent Magnets’ at Aalen University - Materials Research Institute Aalen. 🚀 This innovative approach, which is being carried at our institute, targets reinforcement of #neodymium magnets precisely where needed, reducing additive use and enhancing efficiency. By focusing on resource efficiency, REinforce saves materials, promotes a circular economy and lowers the CO2 print. Additionally, this project aims to reduce Europe’s reliance on imports, fostering greater independence. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg with €461,000, REinforce is working to transition from lab success to industrial scale, paving the way for future commercialisation. 📌 SINT Technology will be present as Exhibitor at the 11th edition of the European Conference on Residual Stresses - ECRS11 which will take place in Prague, Czech Republic, June 3-7, 2024. At the exhibition booth, it will be possible to see the main instruments of the company in this field: in particular, the MTS3000-Restan system for residual stress measurements by hole-drilling with the new Wi-Fi controller, and the MTS3000-RingCore system for residual stress measurements by ring-coring. In addition, several application cases and typical test results will be displayed. In partnership with the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile e Industriale Università di Pisa and the University of Brno, SINT Technology will also present the recent scientific activity in the residual stress field with an oral contribution and a poster. ECRS is a well-established conference series that focuses on residual stresses in structural and functional materials. This gathering brings together scientists, students, and engineers with a shared interest in residual stresses, a phenomenon that affects the physical properties of materials and surfaces across various scales. #ECRS #residualstress #MTS3000

Research stay in Japan 🇯🇵 Scientific progress thrives on exchange with institutes all over the world - Michael Haas is currently visiting the Joining and Welding Research Institute (JWRI) at the Osaka University in Japan to promote this fact. Joint experiments at the unique X-ray facility in Osaka are planned to investigate three-dimensional capillary geometries during laser welding with simultaneous implementation of sophisticated process monitoring methods. 🤯 The joint research intensifies the cooperation between the IFSW and the #JWRI in both laser welding and X-ray evaluation. We are looking forward to the results of the great cooperation. The stay is supported by the Short-term Grants for Talents by InnovationsCampus Mobilität der Zukunft and the #Gsame scholarship, both funded by the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg. We would like thank Precitec - Laser Material Processing for providing the monitoring equipment. Pioneering High-Velocity Impact Experiments: New Insights into Material Plasticity I'm are proud to announce a significant milestone achieved by the research team at the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio. On May 20th, Gianluca Iannitti, Gabriel Testa, Sara Ricci and Andrea Ceccacci successfully implemented the symmetric Taylor impact experiment—also known as the rod-on-rod impact experiment—in temperature conditions for the first time. This pivotal test was conducted on Al2024T351 at 150°C with an impact velocity of 400 m/s. Key Highlights: Objective: To enhance understanding of material plasticity and damage at high strain rates and elevated temperatures. Innovative Setup: Utilized an induction heating device mounted on a single-stage gas-gun, heating the projectile while the receiving cylinder remains at room temperature. Design Precision: The impact distance is carefully designed to eliminate interference from the propellant gas, ensuring perfect alignment and high repeatability. This advancement provides new insights into material behavior under extreme conditions, paving the way for innovations in material science and engineering.
