💧 It’s World Water Day! 🌍 This year, the theme for World Water Day is “Glacier Preservation.” Water is essential for life — and ensuring access to safe, clean water requires strong standards that protect our water systems and promote sustainability. Developed through expert discussions and knowledge, ISO standards embody a consensus on effective solutions and best practices. For water, this includes standards that: ✅ Improve water quality and treatment ✅ Enhance sanitation and hygiene ✅ Protect water infrastructure from the impacts of climate change ✅ Support sustainable water management 🌊 With glaciers melting at an alarming rate due to climate change, strong standards are more important than ever to protect our planet’s most precious resource. 📢 This week, ISO Deputy Secretary-General Silvio Dulinsky spoke at the AI Standards Hub in London, highlighting why global AI governance is essential. 🌍 Looking ahead, ISO is co-organizing the 2025 International AI Standards Summit, scheduled for December 2-3, 2025, in Seoul, South Korea. This summit aims to address the complex challenges posed by AI and promote the development of interoperable standards that uphold reliability, sustainability, and human rights. ➡️ Check out Silvio’s insights on why global standards are key to building trust and driving innovation: https://lnkd.in/enZQ8Bjc #AI #Governance #Trust #AIStandards #Innovation
At the AI Standards Hub Global Summit in London this week, I joined a panel representing ISO - International Organization for Standardization to discuss how we must shape AI’s future responsibly. My three key takeaways: 🔹 AI governance must be global – A fragmented approach creates risk. Standards provide a shared foundation. 🔹 AI is a socio-technical challenge – Governance must balance innovation with fairness, accountability, and human oversight. 🔹 Trust is everything – Without clear guidelines, AI adoption stalls. Standards help build confidence and mitigate risks. The future of AI depends on the choices we make today. Here is an article that goes deeper into those points: https://lnkd.in/eRjs56vZ #AI #Governance #Trust #AIStandards #Innovation

Dr. Najat Maalla M’jid, UN SRSG on Violence Against Children emphasizes that ISO’s Requirements for child-friendly services for victims of violence should be viewed as: ✅ An investment in protection and prevention: A multiple sector investment which includes social work, health, education, justice and law enforcement. ✅ A unified services approach: A "one-roof" model which integrates various sectors to enhance response and impact, underscoring the importance of economic and human capital investment. Aaron Greenberg, Senior Regional Advisor for Europe and Central Asia, Child Protection at UNICEF emphasized how ISO's involvement in children’s rights is opening new opportunities for UNICEF and other organizations to partner with governments to advance this work. These requirements are set to transform how we support child victims of violence and secure justice. The development process was a truly inclusive one, shaped by the voices of children and survivors. Through workshops led by Samfés in Iceland, their insights were directly incorporated, ensuring the final requirements and recommendations are grounded in real experiences and needs. “…when we as humanity fail the child and they become assaulted, we shouldn't continue to fail them by dragging them through horrible legal processes where they're continually asked to relive the trauma just for the benefit of our old, outdated legal systems.” - Matthew McVarish Powerful words from Brave Movement’s co-founder Matthew shared during last week’s launch of ISO’s international requirements for child-friendly services for victims of violence. These requirements represent a major advancement in ensuring that all children receive the protection, care, and justice they rightfully deserve.🌱 Learn more ➡️ https://ow.ly/qTZA50VgePw #ChildrenRights #HRC58 #EndViolenceAgainstChildren #ChildProtection UNICEF, Swedish Institute for Standards, SIS, Staðlaráð Íslands - Íslenskir staðlar, UN SRSG on Violence Against Children

📢 Now available: the world’s first international requirements for child-friendly services for victims of violence. Officially launching today at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, these groundbreaking requirements mark a significant milestone in advancing child protection. Led by ISO members, Icelandic Standards - Staðlaráð Íslands - Íslenskir staðlar and the Swedish Institute for Standards, SIS, this collaborative effort brings together the expertise of over 100 experts from 20+ countries - including representatives from UNICEF, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, Europol, Eurojust, Council of Europe, and UN Office of the Special Representative on Violence against Children.
