In the lead-up to #WorldHumanitarianDay, our Faith and Development Adviser, Desmond Ming-Rong Lim, underscores the importance of collaboration with faith communities in humanitarian and development work. Inclusive dialogue and trust-building with faith actors are essential for fostering a shared understanding of humanitarian values and principles. By adopting a faith-sensitive approach, humanitarian responses can effectively promote peacebuilding and psychosocial well-being, mitigating the suffering caused by disasters, conflict, and violence. #ActForHumanity
Ahead of #WorldHumanitarianDay on 19 August, World Vision South Asia Pacific salutes our frontline humanitarians dedicated to the well-being of children in the worst of disasters. We also celebrate faith leaders who provide humanitarian assistance to their immediate community. They play a crucial role by providing physical refuge, and psychosocial support, and coordinating other relief efforts in their communities. Additionally, their involvement in peacebuilding and conflict resolution is essential in fostering dialogue and reconciliation in conflict-affected areas. We're grateful for our different faith communities who bring hope, joy and justice for all children. #ActForHumanity

To address the world’s biggest challenges, international actors must work change how we work, contributing skills and experience in a way that respects the authority and ownership of those closest to the issue. Haydee and Daniel show that by listening to and following the lead of government, civil society, and faith-based institutions in a nation, CRS can contribute to solutions in a spirit of solidarity and respect for #localleadership #partnership #localization #CivilSociety
International NGOs have an important role to play in supporting smaller, local partners to take their rightful place at the table, say Catholic Relief Services’ Daniel Mumuni and Haydee Diaz. #DevexSeries #RootsOfChange in partnership with Catholic Relief Services

When approaching an Indigenous community expect that you’ll need to properly inform, consult, involve, collaborate and empower each other to achieve success. Indigenous peoples are often asked to provide their time and are contacted by multiple institutions. Keep in mind you’ll need to: ✔Build a program or initiative with the support of the community before you begin planning. Avoid bringing a developed plan to a community or nation unless they have asked for it. ✔ Have clear intentions. ✔ Plan time for visiting and relationship-building. ✔ Understand that many First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities may have difficulty trusting non-Indigenous partners or organizations due to both historical and ongoing effects of colonial trauma. ✔ Consider reciprocity and be prepared to explain how your project or initiative benefits the community. ✔ Expect to answer questions about budget availability. #UWaterlooCoop #Coop #EDIR

Why Funders should invest in Grassroots refugee leadership? Today, millions of refugees in America confront these challenges, compounded by a hostile political environment that targets their very existence. States like Florida and Tennessee are ramping up measures that criminalize and marginalize refugees, further exacerbating the difficulties of starting over. Despite these hurdles, refugee communities are organizing and advocating for change. Funding local refugee leaders, as organizations like Unbound Philanthropy have shown, drives impactful social transformation. These leaders understand their communities' needs and are key to fostering resilience and justice. Funders, it's time to support grassroots refugee leadership and make a difference. 📖 Read more about this curated partner article by National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy: https://lnkd.in/edDSQ_Rv #RefugeeLeadership #Philanthropy #SocialJustice #GrassrootsChange #CommunityAdvocacy #InvestInChange #NCRP #GivingCompass

We are entering a new era of Tribal self-determination. Tribal Nations face several barriers to fully exercising their inherent sovereignty, especially in federal funding programs. Far too many of the federal funding and support programs that Tribes rely on are difficult to access, have overly burdensome federal reporting requirements, have unnecessary limitations, or impose requirements on Tribes that drain Tribal resources and undermine their ability to make their own decisions about where and how to meet the needs of their communities. A new Executive Order signed at last month’s White House Tribal Nations Summit outlined critical actions to better support and affirm Tribal sovereignty, including the creation of a one-stop-shop for federal funding available to Tribes: the Tribal Access to Capital Clearinghouse. This easy and accessible database is a multi-agency strategy to improve awareness of, access to, and utilization of federal funding resources for Tribal governments, Tribal enterprises, Native entrepreneurs, and Native Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs). Peace building is not abstract In our commitment to helping communities build long lasting peace, we understand that peace building is not abstract; it's made of actions and conversations and we have been inspired by young people attending our Youth Empowerment Spaces across districts. In Mutasa, young people are committed to being ambassadors of peace, championing dialogue and taking actions to resolve community conflicts. Some of the youth ambassadors have made advocacy plans to tackle conflicts emanating from water management, violence and exclusion of young people from community development projects. Small steps will build long lasting peace. #Actions4Peace Christian Aid Zimbabwe

One Life This movie is about a group of people whonworked together to save 669 children in Czechoslovakia at the beginning if World War II Based on a true story, here is the synopsis: "London broker Nicholas "Nicky" Winton helps rescue hundreds of predominantly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia in a race against time before the Nazi occupation closes the borders. Fifty years later, he's still haunted by the fate of those he wasn't able to bring to safety." What the synopsis does not share is that a British show called "That's Life" found the children (who were now adults) and they featured Nicky Winton and surprised him by having the children he saved in the audiences. The work of saving these refugees was the work of many people coming together to get the paperwork properly filed, money to male it happen, families to adopt the children in London and so much more. Give yourself the opportunity to see this film and learn a piece of history that we were just made aware of in recent times. Lena Olin, Helena Bonham-Carter and Jonathan Price also star.
