One in twelve people live in #ExtremePoverty. It’s a cycle that’s hard to break. However, poverty has been cut in half since 1990. Millions have climbed out of extreme hardship, proving that progress, though slow, is possible. We believe that when women thrive, the whole community benefits. That’s why we partner with women. Speak Up. Speak Out! Speak out and up about #issues and #causes that rile you. Nellie McCling was one of the Alberta Famous 5 who spoke out for her causes-the right for women to vote, the right of women to vote, the protection of children, the right of young women 'slaving' in factories to have improved working conditions and wages. Here are some ideas for #speaking up: 1) Advocate for Positive Change to raise awareness about issues. This can lead to better understanding of the problem, fostering a sense of urgency and a desire for change. 2) Educate Others by sharing your knowledge and experiences 3) Inspire Action and you may nudge others to volunteer, donate, or support grassroots movements. 4) Initiate Dialogue that encourages open conversations. 4) Hold Institutions Accountable to create checks and balances in your community and country. 5) Promote Social Change by speaking out against injustice. 6) Demonstrate Personal Growth by speaking out. Doing so requires courage and self-reflection.

Since 2022, Turn2us, in collaboration with Buttle UK and the Smallwood Trust, and community partners Creative Minds Middlesbrough and Ubuntu Multicultural Centre, we have taken bold steps in Middlesbrough to confront the stark realities of gendered poverty head-on. Our mission is clear: empower women and children who bear the brunt of financial insecurity by placing them at the heart of solution-building. The idea to collaborate first evolved from the Grant Makers Alliance (GMA), who wanted to challenge some of the more paternalistic and traditional elements of the sector. We knew, as single organisations, we could not end gendered and child poverty, so we wanted to understand what the potential impact could be if we worked together - we wanted to know what happens if we combine our resources, experience, and expertise into our programmes. In 2023 alone, we've invested £50,000 in direct grants to 25 women in Newport ward, with another £50,000 scheduled for later this year. This is part of a broader £1 million, three-year initiative aimed at creating sustainable futures. Here are some of the big take aways so far… • Gendered and child poverty are inextricably linked • Pooled funding leads to deeper and more meaningful solutions • Collaboration enhances programme design and collective impact Find out more about what we’ve learned from this project including the tricky parts of working across five organisations: https://lnkd.in/gVV4mjSd #GrantMaking #Grants #SystemChange #Charities #Poverty #GenderedPoverty #ChildPoverty #Middlesbrough #NRPF #NoRecourseToPublicFunds #Refugee #AsylumSeeker #CoProduction

The World Day of Social Justice, serves as a reminder of the importance of promoting equality, fairness, and human rights for all individuals. It is a day to raise awareness about the challenges faced by marginalized communities and to advocate for policies that address social and economic disparities. By recognizing and addressing issues such as poverty, discrimination, and inequality, we can work towards creating a more just and inclusive society for everyone. Let us use this day as an opportunity to stand in solidarity with those who are oppressed and marginalized, and to strive towards a world where social justice is a reality for all. tlbbhfoundation.org . . . #donate #nonprofit #humanitarian #africa #mutualaid #ghana #activism #ladybbless #tlbbh #tlbbhfoundation #SDGS #tolerance #sustainabledevelopment #genderequality #climatechange #tlbbhfoundation #tlbbhf #SDG7 #energy #cleanenergy #affordableenergy

A very interesting and important article today on the importance of technology and digital inclusion. An estimated one in seven people in the UK are deprived across two or more dimensions of digital, according to Deloitte’s report, ‘Digital Poverty in the UK’. This includes people of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. Making this campaign incredibly important! #charity #digitalpoverty #charitydigital
