🚀 The largest electronics conference in the Baltics is coming! ❇ Thomas Johann Seebeck Department of Electronics is organizing an international conference BEC2024 on October 2-4, 2024 in Tallinn on the topic of green and dependable electronic systems and devices. 🌍 🤗 Such technologies help address some major global challenges facing humanity: climate change, sustainability, urbanization, health, and well-being. According to the Chairperson, Professor Yannick Le Moullec, green and dependable electronic devices and embedded systems are essential tools for creating a sustainable and resilient world. "The duet "sustainable electronics and electronics for sustainability“ enable us to effectively address #climatechange, #sustainability, #urbanization, and promote #health and well-being," noted Le Moullec. Acting Director of the Thomas Johann Seebeck Department of Electronics, Alar Kuusik stated that the goal of the Baltic Electronics Conference 2024 (BEC2024) is to promote #researchanddevelopment in the field of electronics and embedded systems, particularly in the Baltic Sea region. We're delighted to share that DIRDI has secured funding from Innovate UK's Accelerated Knowledge Transfer (AKT) scheme for groundbreaking research on Electromagnetic (EM) Metamaterials. https://lnkd.in/eUiMTSFX This collaboration between Durham University Engineering and Coltraco Ultrasonics aims to revolutionise pressure sensing in the maritime industry. Over the next four months, we will undertake the first stages of developing a novel, miniaturized, and cost-effective pressure sensor specifically tailored for rubber seals, crucial for maintaining watertight integrity. Unlike conventional sensors, our approach harnesses the power of electromagnetic metamaterials, tapping into a largely unexplored scientific frontier. These materials exhibit unique properties at the nanoscale, enabling us to create high-sensitivity sensors capable of monitoring seal efficacy with unprecedented accuracy. This project addresses a critical need in the shipping industry, where ensuring watertightness is paramount for safety. By delivering a constant-monitoring solution through affordable, mass-manufacturable sensors, we aim to enhance maritime safety and efficiency, aligning with DIRDI’s mission of driving both scientific discovery and commercial innovation.
