About 40% of international students in Germany live in student halls of residence. These are shared accommodations where students live in a building with other students and may share bathrooms and kitchens. International students can also live in on-campus housing or off-campus housing, which can cost between €270–€934 per month and €250–€750 per month, respectively. Some cities that are good for international students include: Leipzig: A student city with renowned universities, cultural activities, nightlife, and low cost of living Berlin: A diverse city with a mix of culture, scenery, and nightlife Munich: Ranked as the best city in Germany for Indian students in 2023

𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙀𝙘𝙝𝙩-𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣 Lovely and relaxed living. Relax in natural surroundings, yet less than half an hour’s drive from work. A schnitzel in Germany, a glorious glass of special beer in Belgium and along the way relaxing by the Maasplassen, the largest interconnected water sports area in the Netherlands. And all in the same afternoon! Gemeente Echt - Susteren is also called “The Narrowest Part of the Netherlands”, because here you are just 4.8 kilometres from Belgium, via the Netherlands, already in Germany. The municipality of Echt-Susteren has a population of approximately 32,000. 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙀𝙘𝙝𝙩-𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣 You can reach a number of larger cities in the German Ruhr area or in Dusseldorf, Cologne and Aachen. Belgium is also not far with Brussels, Antwerp, Liège or Hasselt within an hour’s drive. Echt-Susteren is not only centrally located in Limburg; it is also perfectly accessible by the two motorways and two train stations with fast connections to Maastricht and Eindhoven. This also means that large companies such as DSM, Chemelot, Philips, etc. are within easy reach. 𝙀𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙀𝙘𝙝𝙩-𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣 Whether it’s about schooling for little ones or young adults, the first steps towards a glorious future can be taken in Echt-Susteren. There is a good offering of quality education within the municipality, so that children up to the age of 18 do not have to cycle more than ten minutes to get to school. Thanks to the excellent train connections, the Eindhoven University of Technology, Maastricht University, the RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Cologne University or the University of Hasselt are also within easy reach. We are incredibly proud to announce that GALWAY has been named the “Rising Star” by the Erasmus Student Network during #EGMSEVILLE2024 The Erasmus Destination of the Year initiative seeks to identify great practices in supporting student mobility at the city level, showcasing the role that local student associations can play in making their cities better mobility destinations and improving the quality and impact of mobility experiences. By highlighting great local practices in student mobility support and promoting inclusive mobility, it seeks to widen participation among students from different backgrounds and inspire new practices among the different stakeholders involved in student mobility. This year’s application focused on how the Local Section's work (ESN UG - Erasmus Student Network University of Galway) and the collaboration with other key stakeholders, such as their HEI (University of Galway) the municipality, and other local partners, ensures a high-quality mobility experience for students. A priority is dedicated to the inclusion and diversity dimension, in terms of how the work done by the section and the other actors ensures that students enjoy their mobilities to the fullest regardless of their background and that the diversity of the student population and the local community is used as an asset. Therefore, the expected result of this initiative is to show the collaboration between ESN Local Sections and stakeholders can make cities fantastic mobility destinations. ESN’s “Rising Star” showcases the application that has shown great potential in of the requirements and is on a pathway to becoming the Erasmus Destination of the Year someday.
