Energy - Sustainability - Growth: is that the new ESG? Earlier this week we invited our largest investors, banks and analysts to engage with us on our energy transition plan. The intention was to provide an opportunity to demonstrate and discuss what we do across ESG and how sustainability is a business enabler.   What motivated me when joining this company was how sustainability was integrated into our decision-making process. And the way we approached the breath of sustainability matters across the organisation. Be it how we continuously work to reduce emissions from our oil an gas, how we integrate nature and coexistence when initiating and building out renewable projects, or how our respect for human rights is fundamental in our activities to contribute to a fair and just transition. This is still my key motivation, so let me share what we do and how we do it across climate, nature and people.     Of course, as a company which has the largest impact on climate, it is natural to focus in on how we work to reduce that impact. Last year we implemented 82 big and small emission reduction initiatives across the portfolio. This led to emission cuts of almost 400.000 tonnes and 500 million NOK in saved OPEX annually. That is not only good for the climate, it also demonstrates a clear business advantage.   Climate action, can not happen at the expense of people and nature. Renewables is crucial to transform the energy system, but it comes with a set of sustainability challenges. Minimising impact on nature is one issue that needs to be managed. For instance, we deploy acoustic sensors to monitor whales to avoid collision as we construct our wind parks outside of NYC and do bird monitoring programs outside Scotland map potential conflict zones.   We need a transition that brings society along and that is fair for people. Today, more than 3 million people in Europe work in industries that are hard to decarbonise such as steel and concrete. To help preserve value creation, industry and local communities, carbon capture and storage will be an important solution. That is why we have increased our ambition to transport and store 30-50 million tonnes of CO2 annually in 2035. To put that into perspective, Norway’s total emissions is almost 50 million tonnes today. Even as that comes down to a 50-55% reduction in 2030, there will still be a significant need for carbon storage on the European continent. And we can help with that.   Energy, sustainability and growth is perhaps not the new ESG, but I still think it captures the responsibility of a company like ours when it comes to accelerating the energy transition while ensuring long-term value creation. Markets & Investor Services is proud to share the FY2023 Sustainable Assets Impact Report for Clifford Capital's existing #infrastructure asset backed securities (#IABS) vehicles - Bayfront Infrastructure Capital II, III and IV. The report highlights the ongoing sustainability impacts of the eligible green and social assets within our IABS portfolios, which included a quarter of a billion dollars of invested in renewable energy projects that were estimated to have abated close to half a million tonnes of CO2 equivalent in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions last year. The impact metrics were prepared by SLR Consulting, with data covering the reporting period from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023. We also spotlight two renewable energy projects based in Vietnam (pictured) and Jordan, which are critical to the clean energy transition commitments of their host countries. 🤝 CSIRO is partnering with Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) for the ‘Innovate to Grow’ program aimed at SMEs in the clean energy sector, following a $20 million investment into CSIRO’s SME Connect portfolio. “We have all the ingredients here in Australia for the critical energy minerals that are required to power the clean energy transition,” said The CSIRO’s director of energy, Dr Dietmar Tourbier. “At TRaCE, we are extremely focused on emissions reductions and our path to Net Zero.
