Did you know that SAF can have significant impact on #contail formation and thereby the save a huge environmental impact? This very 'insight-fuel' post from Maxime Meijers of Estuaire describes that the blend ratio, lack of sulphur compounds and aromatic content all play leading factors. The focus on the power-to-liquid (PtL) pathway and the recent developments in liquid strained cycloalkanes as high-performance sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) have opened new avenues for innovation in the composition of aviation fuels! 🛫🌱 Through machine learning, potential cycloalkane structures with superior energy content and other essential properties are identified and optimized, which enhances the efficiency and performance and reduces the costs of SAF. 💡🔬 Using strained multicyclic hydrocarbons as the base for SAF brings several benefits over conventional aviation fuels: ⚡ Higher energy density 🌐 Increased flight range ⛽ Potentially reduced refueling stops ✈️ Improving overall operational effectiveness 🌎🌿Moreover, the use of high-performance liquid cycloalkanes can significantly reduce environmental impacts and carbon emissions, aligning with the aviation industry’s focus on sustainability and decarbonization. #FollowUsBeyond #catalysts #SAF

We are proud to announce the launch of a new international conference series on Sustainable Aviation Research #ICSAR, in collaboration with Stephen Dooley at TCD and Joshua Heyne at the Washington State University. The 1st International Conference on Sustainable Aviation Research (ICSAR) will take place in Trinity College Dublin in July 2025! As global air travel continues to grow, the need for sustainable aviation technologies and practices becomes increasingly critical. The aviation industry is on a fast track toward achieving net-zero carbon emissions, making the advancement of sustainable aviation research more important than ever. This research is vital to ensuring that aviation can expand while safeguarding the health of our planet. The conference comes at a crucial moment as we accelerate the development and adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuels #SAF. With the #ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation setting ambitious targets, requiring 2% SAF in Europe by 2025 and 70% by 2050, this conference will play a critical role in aligning industry stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers to overcome the technical and economic challenges of SAF production and deployment, ensuring that the aviation sector can meet these ambitious targets while supporting global climate goals. The aviation sector today is entirely reliant on fossil jet fuel, but upcoming regulatory measures in key geographies such as the U.S. and EU seek to promote the adoption of novel technologies to decarbonize the sector.
