Scripps Research has announced the appointment of philanthropist and #entrepreneur Jennifer Rubio to its board of directors. Away, a travel and lifestyle company that debuted in 2016 and has been featured on TIME's list of "Best Inventions" and Fast Company's "World's Most Innovative Companies," is led by co-founder Rubio. #Rubio is not only a savvy businesswoman but also passionate about world health; in 2021, she and her spouse, Stewart Butterfield, gave $25 million. Stewart Butterfield, co-founder and CEO of Slack, joining the board, Scripps Research will also benefit from Rubio's advice. Butterfield is going to be on the Board of Directors as an observer. His personal shares in #Slack were pledged to the Science World Equity Giving program in 2015, demonstrating his longstanding commitment for scientific research and medicine.
