What is SID? MPD’s Special Investigation Division (SID) reduces gun violence by targeting the most violent offenders in coordination with Federal, State, and local partners in order to identify, locate, and arrest violent offenders, typically the 10% that are responsible for 90% of violent crime. SID also is responsible for arresting fugitives wanted for the most serious crimes to include homicide, non-fatal shootings, armed robbery, sexual assaults, etc. There are a total of 46 sworn members assigned to SID, with an additional 19 members assigned through SID to HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area). These members are divided into shifts and cover these duties 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, 7 days a week. This week, SID was able to arrest one homicide suspect, two suspects on fentanyl and cocaine manufacture/ delivery, a suspect on reckless endangerment of safety homicide by vehicle charge, and a suspect on a harboring/aiding a fugitive charge. All in a day’s work. MPD works hard to keep our community safe. We are better together.

Real Time Crime Center News: Beaumont Police Department unveils new 'Real-Time Crime Center' The system has already been instrumental in solving 87 cases, recovering illegal guns and serving warrants. The Beaumont Police Department is showing off its new "Real-Time Crime Center" which has been two years in the making. Fūsus by Axon is the name of the system that the center uses and it is billed as being able to help stop crime as it's happening. City leaders tell 12news that the new crime center is all about making Beaumont a safer place to live. We got a first-hand look at how the $275,000 center works. The system has already been instrumental in solving 87 cases, recovering illegal guns and serving warrants according to Beaumont Police. "When people feel safer because they are safer that is a big impact for Beaumont, Texas," said Mayor Roy West. We've been hearing about the new center and how it will prevent crime but we haven't had a chance to actually see it until now. "It is an incredible day," West said, adding "what an incredible facility." The city invited dozens downtown on Thursday for the center's official ribbon cutting "We are very excited to finally be able to reveal our real time crime center," officer Haley Morrow said, "this is something that other police departments have implemented across the country." During a tour, city leaders and the media got to see how the system works. The Fusus technology brings a variety of camera feeds from all around the city into one room. Currently there are 1,915 "registered" cameras and 564 "integrated" cameras as part of the system. "Registered cameras are strictly our citizens saying, hey, Beaumont PD we have cameras here," Morrow explained. #RTCC #realtimecrimecenter #dispatch #911dispatch #BeaumontTX #Fusus #publicsafety #publicsafetytechnology #publicsafetysoftware Read the full article here--> https://hubs.li/Q02HyLW50

Shedding Light on Urgent Issues: From Child Trafficking to Online Predators: In the wake of recent news regarding the arrest of Reverend and 14 other men in Texas for targeting minors online, it's more crucial than ever to address the intersecting issues of child trafficking and online exploitation. I recently collaborated with my classmates at Drew University on a project focusing on unaccompanied minors crossing the U.S. border, which also highlighted the pervasive threat of child trafficking. Our article, published on WorldPoliticsDataLab.org, explores the challenges and implications surrounding this pressing human rights issue. Now, with the news of Operation Home Alone 2024 leading to the arrests in Texas, we're reminded of the real dangers facing vulnerable youth both online and offline. The charges filed against these individuals serve as a stark reminder of the importance of raising awareness and taking action to protect our children. As we continue to share our findings and engage in conversations about these critical issues, I invite you to join us in advocating for the safety and well-being of all children. Let's work together to combat child trafficking, online exploitation, and ensure justice for victims. #HumanRights #ChildTrafficking #OnlineSafety Read our article here: https://lnkd.in/dafiG7ST Learn more about Operation Home Alone 2024 below:

🚨 Operation North Star: A Critical Step in Combatting Violent Crime 🚨 From May to September of 2024, the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), in partnership with local, state, and federal law enforcement, apprehended over 3,400 violent fugitives across 10 metropolitan areas as part of Operation North Star FY 2024. Among those arrested were 216 individuals charged with homicide and over 800 for assault. Additionally, authorities seized 534 firearms and dangerous quantities of fentanyl. This initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration between law enforcement agencies, and the impact that strategic, data-driven approaches can have in making our communities safer. At the Partnership for a Safer Cleveland, we support efforts that reduce violence and prioritize safety across neighborhoods. There are, in my opinion, three main reasons for the increasing numbers of persons killed by police officers in this country: 1) mental illness is still widely untreated today, and treatment facilities are woefully inadequate. 2) It is far too easy to obtain firearms in this country today. The more citizens that are armed, the more likely some of those citizens are willing to use them against law enforcement. Also, red flag laws that are designed to strip certain persons of their right to possess firearms due to previous violent threats or actions are inadequate as well, and vary from state to state. We need to strengthen our nation's red flag laws. 3) from what I've seen of some recent police shootings that resulted in the death of armed subjects, I would say that the numbers of 'suicide by cop' shootings are also on the rise. I've posted a few videos here of OIS that, in my opinion, involved armed subjects who were literally surrounded by police officers, with no possibility of avoiding capture/arrest, and yet made the decision to go out in a hail of gunfire by either shooting at or pointing their firearm at responding officers.

I was an ortho trauma/hand surgeon in Chicago for 40 years. The train stop in the pic is just south of the "Gold Coast" downtown area. Train stations and areas under "the el" have had rashes of violent crime including robberies of cell phones, murder, and pushing riders onto the train tracks. Putting our violent crime problem into some perspective: -Lack of consequences: The Cook County State's Attorneys office was a revolving door under Kim Foxx. Thankfully, she will not be running for re-election. Experienced prosecutors have left the office partially for this reason. Local judges have commented that human brains are not fully developed until age 24 or so, so how can we hold people accountable for their actions before then? If arrested, there is no bail and the offender is usually back on the street in hours. -Roadblocks to concealed carry: It is possible to obtain a concealed carry permit in Chicago but there is a six month or longer backup in processing the paperwork. There are also no training facilities in the city but they are available in the suburbs. -Public areas such as parks, schools, hospitals and many private establishments are "gun free zones." -Transporting firearms in vehicles makes them legally unavailable to law abiding citizens. What to do? -The odds are somewhat stacked against you but: -Have your "head on a swivel" also called "Condition Yellow" by Col. Jeff Cooper or "relaxed awareness." Be a people watcher. -Don't travel alone in deserted areas. -Get concealed carry/self defense training despite the impediments. -Stay off your phone in public. Pay attention to your surroundings. -Avoid late night travel if possible. Realize that your safety is at least partially your responsibility. You may not be a sheepdog but please don't be a sheep. Good luck!

🚨🚨 A 61-year-old woman was beaten brutally, resulting in brain-death - while she was alone on a Chicago train. Her assailant was an eight-time felon out on parole for assaulting and robbing an undercover police officer. This is just ONE recent example of how these far-left policies are destroying our country. #REPOST for awareness!!! #lawenforcement #thinblueline

This lack of accountability gives Criminal Justice Reform a black eye. We brag about the reduction in crime but ignore the abhorrent lack of prosecution of violent offenders in Fairfax. Victims of violent crime continue to be ignored in Fairfax and we can no longer ignore this dangerous trend. When will it end? #victimsrights #criminaljusticereform

When an Officer has to engage in a gunfight or to have to take a life to save another it is often one of the scariest and or worse moments of their lives. But when an illegally armed man fires multiple shots at Officers when fleeing from an attempted contact, they leave the Officers no choice. The Officers must take the lawful and necessary steps to stop the threat in order to protect themselves, their partners, and the community. They did what was right and I am glad their Commissioner is standing by them. I always find it interesting how a clear cut legal shooting is often used by activists or agenda driven politicians to criticize Officers and Law Enforcement. Claiming that Baltimore PD’s specialized gun squads have a reputation for displaying overly aggressive behavior and escalating otherwise peaceful encounters, after they were shot at is pure nonsense. #police #policeofficer #policeofficers #officer #officers #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficer #sheriff #deputy #marshal #constable #criminaljusticesystem #criminaljustice #crime #criminallaw #publicsafety #officersafety #communitysafety #victimsrights #copscountpolicematter #policingmatters #policematter #policing #cop #cops #p1 #iacp #backtheblue https://lnkd.in/g_8aVPx5
