This week I participated in a Hiring Our Heroes Telecommunications hiring panel, a Telecommunications virtual hiring fair, and a huge 50strong. I briefly met many people or had micro-interactions with them about their interests or goals. I can't remember the hundreds of unique people at each event. But what is next for them?
Here are three quick tips for anyone at those events or a job seeker.
1) Apply for the job, anyway! Many people want to "talk to someone before they apply" in this digital landscape. You need to get that application in and then talk about the job. You should know your skills and abilities and determine whether you are a fit. Don't tell yourself no.
2) Set up job alerts for the types of jobs and at the companies you are most interested in! These job alerts will help you see and apply quickly to open positions. When in doubt about applying, see tip one.
3) Follow up, and follow through! If you are interested in a company but have yet to see a job for you. But want to start informational interviews with people at that company, go for it. Then when they give you an action item or a takeaway, follow up and do it. Keep that connection warm and updated on what you are looking at and looking for within their organization.
If you are interested in Verizon opportunities, visit our career site and sign up for our job alerts or attend an info session!
You have lots of great opportunities ahead of you. I believe in you! See you on the high ground!
Happy Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard!
