Question for game dev hiring managers: How does “shipping” a AAA game correlate with a candidate’s likely success in an open role? Specifically, how is this different than experience working on a AAA game? These are always separate requirements, it’s never and/or. So why are you filtering out more experienced candidates that didn’t get to work on games that finished over less experienced candidates who were lucky enough to be in the right place(s) at the right time? Is there an implicit conclusion that game devs whose games don’t ship are actually less qualified than those whose games launch? What’s the reasoning? Full disclosure: I’ve never shipped a AAA game.

Gameloft laid off employees without even a single day's notice. Imagine arriving at work, go about your morning routine, brewing coffee in the same machine, settling at your desk, resuming where you left the last day, only to find out an hour later that your access has been revoked. This is what happened with people at another studio in Toronto 10 days ago. I have a list of 26 game dev professionals who were impacted and are now actively looking for their next game project. Please repost and comment to bring this post to people who're hiring in Canada. We can get you connected to these professionals and help you close your positions faster. 🔁🔁🔁 #gaming #gameprogramming #gamedevelopment #jobs #layoffs

Fractional CEO/COO | 4 steps to skyrocket your gaming studio in 3 months | $100M+ Budgets Managed | ex-MD Blizzard, Gameloft & Huuuge
I've managed 150+ employees. And worked for the Top 1% Game Studios. I believe hiring for cultural fit is as important as hiring for skill. Because you can have the best team on paper. But if they don’t fit the company culture, it won't work. When hiring, it's important to assess. If a candidate shares the company's values and long-term vision. As a collaborative and cohesive team. Leads to greater productivity and creativity. During my 4000 days at Gameloft, there was a big learning curve. Especially when recruiting the right team came into play. When I was in Japan, cultural fit was essential. Essential for the company's success. Success that came from people. People being the heart of it all. PS. Are you team "paper work" or "people work"?

An important topic. Lately, my LinkedIn feed has been flooded with discussions about the return of mandatory office days. A while back, I saw several polls asking people how they feel about this shift, and the results were crystal clear: the majority are not in favor of increasing office days, and many are outright frustrated by some companies trying to eliminate remote work entirely. While I understand the rationale— and sure, if companies are paying for office space, it makes sense to use it occasionally—there are surely better ways to encourage office attendance than enforcing strict in-office days. Flexibility is key in the modern workplace. Forcing people into the office can lead to disengagement, decreased productivity, and even higher turnover. What many organizations seem to miss is that office attendance should be about purpose, not just presence. Creating an environment where people want to come in, for collaboration or creative work, is far more effective than simply mandating it. Giving employees the choice and autonomy to decide when the office is beneficial to them could lead to better outcomes for both the company and its people.

What do French (🇫🇷) people do when their employer forces them to return to the office ? They go on strike, of course 🥖 Almost 700 Ubisoft employees have been on strike for 3 days to complain about the new policy forcing all employees worldwide to return to the office 3 days per week "After more than five years of working efficiently in the current remote-work context, many of our colleagues have built or rebuilt their lives (family life, housing, parenthood, etc.) and simply cannot return to the previous working conditions," the union wrote. Our employer knows this perfectly well. The consequence of its decision will be the loss of our colleagues’ jobs, the disorganisation of many game projects, and the drastic increase in psychosocial risks for those who remain. I believe Ubisoft is playing a game of "soft layoff", forcing people to voluntarily leave the company And you ? Would you go back to the office 3 days per week and move back to Paris for a job at Ubisoft ?
