The current Polish legal system does not sufficiently support #innovative activities, based on advanced knowledge and creating new technologies. Primarily reproductive projects are financed, which do not provide opportunities to build advantages for the Polish economy on an #international scale. Changes are necessary, because otherwise it may lead to: ➡ reversal of processes of strengthening #cooperation between the academic and business communities 🤝 ➡ loss of global competitiveness and #Poland's dependence on foreign technologies 🎈 ➡ leakage of #talent from the life sciences sector to the foreign market 🛫 ➡ a slowdown in economic #growth 📉

My talk entitled " Development of Converging BioMedical Platform Technologies: Towards Industry Academia Collaborations and Deep Science Startups " was well received by industry delegates Department of Science and Technology secretary Prof. Abhay Karandikar emphasized the importance on working on Technology Development, IP, Industry-Academia partnerships for nation building which our group has been doing for the last 10+ years. Working on development of two different biomedical technologies especially during tenure-track was pretty scary!!! We have come long way faced many challenges and obstacles converted them into opportunities. I take this opportunity to thank my students, collaborators and funding agency in believing in my vision. last but least the one slide captured attention of everybody is that our group contribution of number of Granted US patents in all IISERs and NISER. Next time anybody this cannot be India please do not listen to them. #technology #biomedical #chemicalbiology #patents #IP #technology #ABRGT #MAPLabTech #BrittoLab #ANRF #DST #IISERPune #Brittolab #industryacademiapartnership #techtransfer #deepsciencestartups

How are my friends in Biotech feeling about the new announcements, launched today, to drive innovation in science? "Dr Joe Marshall, Chief Executive of the The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB), said: “The Government has today announced several initiatives to mark the first anniversary of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. The creation of a dedicated department for science and innovation shows that the Government has rightly acknowledged that R&D is a key driver of growth. This will be vital if we are to meet the goal of becoming a 'Science and Technology Superpower'. However, to overcome long-term stagnation and foster growth, the UK must take a step forward, and further prioritise research and innovation. It is imperative that the Government builds a focused, cross-departmental approach to deliver a comprehensive and holistic research and innovation policy. Only then will it meet its own goal of becoming a true 'Science and Technology Superpower'.” #science #biotech #technology

🌱 Scope Biosciences; a WUR campus resident Scope Biosciences is a startup that has rapidly evolved from a spinoff of the laboratory Microbiology at Wageningen University & Research to a key player in molecular diagnostics for the Agri-Food sector in just four years. Founded by Niek Savelkoul and fellow co-founders, Scope Biosciences specializes in developing on-site highly accurate molecular diagnostics using CRISPR-Cas technology. This innovative approach allows for the rapid identification of specific viruses and bacteria, making their test a game-changer, compared to the well-known, but laboratory-based PCR, in the Agri-Food sector. Its simplicity and on-site applicability make it invaluable for plant breeders, allowing them to quickly screen for various plant pathogens. 🌍 Impact Beyond Agri-Food: While their primary focus is the Agri-Food sector, the technology also holds promise in the medical domain. The collaboration with GenDx showcases the versatility of the CRISPR diagnostics system in medical diagnostics, aiming for rapid analysis in critical situations. The team has grown to seven dedicated WUR alumni, while also working closely with CRISPR-Cas researchers John van der Oost and Raymond Staals. They were initially offered the opportunity to use lab space in the AFSG Laboratory of Microbiology to start the research and later moved to Plus Ultra I. Wageningen Campus provides valuable lab space and proximity to collaborators. As Scope Biosciences seeks clients globally, they are gearing up for increased production, with plans to expand our labs in Plus Ultra I. The vision is to continue growing, fuelled by awards and investor support. #ScopeBiosciences #AgriFood #CRISPRDiagnostics #Innovation #WageningenCampus #Biotech #StartupSuccess
