Parents often ask me to show them NYC playrooms and rooftop gardens, but they should also be asking to see the swimming pool. Get babies swimming according to research at University of Padua. A Non-Randomized Pilot Study on the Benefits of Baby Swimming on Motor Development published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (2022) by Irene Leo and colleagues highlights the role of swimming on cognitive development. Baby swimming facilitates reflexes, grasping and fine and gross motor skill. The development of new skills also predicts early physical and mental health. We know some of our parents will have questions as regards our Kids Summer Swim Camp. Here’s a list of FAQs and their answers. - Are the kids staying from 9am to 12pm? No, just for a 35-minute time slot. - Are you going to feed them during the camp? No, the kids are only participating in a 35-minute fun swim session and will go home to eat. - Is the fee for the whole 3 weeks? No, it's just for 1 week. - Are there other fun activities like art & craft sessions? No, it's purely a 35-minute fun swim session. - Can my kid attend for 2 days from the 1 week? No, they must attend for the full week. - Can my 1-year-old baby join? No, it's for children aged 3 years and above. - Will my child start swimming in 1 week? No, learning to swim is a step-by-step process that takes at least 24 lessons for a child to start swimming independently. - Will my baby learn water confidence? Yes, absolutely. - Is my baby safe without me in the water? Yes, the kids are safe with the coaches in the water, and there are also admins watching outside the pool. It's a big week for urban outdoor swimming! The River Seine is declared safe for Paris 2024 Olympics events AND the Swimmable Cities charter is out! Many cities - like Glasgow - will have rich but hidden histories of swimming. 💜 A BIG shoutout goes to my new swim client allll the way from up North‼️ He’s been in swimming lessons but they weren’t seeing the results. But in just 6 consecutive sessions (on vacation), he is more confident in the water, he demonstrated proper breath exchange at his level, he is comfortable in the swimmers position on a pool noodle, his favorite is the “monkey crawl” which is an important safety tech., AND after much resistance, he cooperated in the back glide/back float position with assistance. 💜 I was asked to move up North until he learned to swim but I can’t because of you‼️ 🏊🏼Everyone can learn to swim but at a different pace. Some people are faster learners while others need time to adjust. 💦 Be relentless no matter the external circumstances and internal emotions! 💦 Be consistent in well doing! 💦 Be optimistic about yourself, your dreams and desires! 💦 Be delusional about your dreams for it’s only delusion until it is done! 💦 Be obedient in the process for obedience is greater than sacrifice! Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Please join the Nu Beta Sigma Alumnae chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated and the Swim Strong Foundation our Annual Swim 1922 Water Safety Clinic on Saturday, May 18th, 2024. We will have a wet clinic for participants ages 8 to adults on the importance of water safety skills. We will provide CPR training that will lead to receiving a certification. We will also give a way summer swim lesson scholarships. SWIM 1922, in partnership with USA Swimming, is one of SGRho’s national programs and is targeted at reducing the drowning rates of African American and Hispanic children. One way our sorority and chapter have leaned in to support this effort is by hosting swim clinics to teach youth about water safety. In turn, it is our hope that this engagement and exposure will reduce the number of African American and Hispanic youth’s fear of water and increase their knowledge and participation in swimming. Did you know? According to the CDC, approximately 10 people drown every day in the U.S.A. An even more startling fact is that 70 percent of African American children and 60 percent of Hispanic children in the U.S. do not know how to swim. https://lnkd.in/gEVtaKRr
