🌟 Spotted: A historical treasure from our archives! 🌟 On 17 August 1360, Stadt Köln received a very special privilege: The seal, granted by the Emperor Charles IV, gave us the right to hold trade fairs twice a year - for eight days before; respectively after St John's Day (24 June) and St Martin's Day (11 November). This official authorisation has contributed immensely to Cologne's status as world-class trading location and has added to the economic and political power of the city over the centuries. 🙌 Even though Koelnmesse as a company was only officially founded about 564 years later, this seal marked an important turning point in the history of the trade fair world. 📚 Since its start as a proper company 1924 - exactly 100 years ago - Koelnmesse has been a vibrant meeting place for innovation, business opportunities and international cooperation. 🤩 📸: Koelnmesse GmbH / Thomas Schäkel #koelnmesse #koelnmesseconnects #history #tradefair

It was cold in Friedrichshafen! However, this only applied to the temperatures outside the trade show grounds. At the exhibitors' stands, on the other hand, there was the familiar atmosphere for which Fakuma Messe is known. For the second edition after the Corona pandemic, the organizer had planned a lot. With 1,636 exhibitors and 39,343 trade visitors, Fakuma was able to record an increase compared to the last event from 2021, but the pre-Corona level (2018: 1,933 exhibitors and 47,650 trade visitors) was not reached this year. Nevertheless, many exhibitors were satisfied. As a rule, trade show discussions are not judged by quantity, but by quality. You can find out what topics the companies had on their agendas and see impressions from the exhibition halls in the follow-up report, including a picture gallery. 👇

For anyone interested in the post-pandemic comeback of trade fairs and the future of our industry, we highly recommend reading Carsten Dierig’s insightful piece for Welt, one of Germany’s leading newspapers (link German/no paywall). 📰 As he writes: “Trade fairs were among those hit hardest by the COVID-19 crisis. Venues had to remain closed, events were cancelled, and companies faced bankruptcy. Now, a series of organisers are reporting record results. Not least because the true value of trade fairs has been rediscovered.” Dierig describes how Koelnmesse, in particular, kept on investing in the future of physical trade fairs and events throughout the slump, and then managed to announce record sales in time for its 100th anniversary. The author sees a trend in one German trade fair company after another reporting its comeback and the return of international exhibitors and visitors. 💯 “Humans are social beings and prefer direct contact,” Dierig quotes our Koelnmesse CEO Gerald Böse. “We thrive on bringing people together.” Read the full Welt article here: https://lnkd.in/gpjYauqa 📸: Koelnmesse GmbH, Oliver Wachenfeld #koelnmesse #koelnmesse100 #tradefair #messen #comeback

As is always the case on Thursdays, this week we are once again looking back into Koelnmesse’s past. 🕰️💫 This time we’re taking a look at the period between 1934 and 1943 – the darkest chapter in the company’s history. After the National Socialists came to power, Nazis were appointed to management positions at the trade fair organisation. As a result, propaganda events were organised in the Rheinhallen, including the "Braune Messe – Deutsche Woche" ("Brown Trade Fair – German Week"). During the Second World War, the trade fair grounds were misused as a camp for victims of National Socialist persecution. At times, the facilities were used as a subcamp. The founder of Koelnmesse, Konrad Adenauer, was also imprisoned here and was only able to survive due to a great stroke of luck. At this point, we would like to emphasise that whilst we report transparently about the history of Koelnmesse, we explicitly distance ourselves from any extremist and anti-democratic tendencies. As an international company and centre for world trade, we are committed to solidarity, openness and tolerance. We are built on and continue to work towards securing open-minded collaboration between industries, countries and cultures. 🌍🤝 📸: Koelnmesse GmbH / Maxi Uellendahl #koelnmesse #koelnmesseconnects #anniversary #tbt

The duration of EMO Hannover 2025 will be shortened from six to five days in the future. “#Shortening the event by one day is a #strategicdecision aimed at making EMO Hannover even more efficient and more purposeful,” said Dr Markus Heering, Managing Director, VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) —the organizer of EMO Hannover —in describing the change. The decision is based on the #exhibitors’ clear desire to #focus and #condense the #tradefair even more. In 2023, they were asked about this in detail during the event. The result was clear: the majority of exhibitors would like to cancel Saturday. #Visitinghabits have changed significantly in recent years. Visitors can obtain detailed information in advance, prepare their visit to the #tradefair better and more stringently, and also decide more quickly if necessary. According to the visitor survey, the average duration of a visit is just over a day. #Internationalvisitors stay slightly longer. “As a result, Saturday is no longer an attractive day to visit,” said Heering. “We are therefore complying with the exhibitors’ request and canceling Saturday.” EMO Hannover VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) Sylke Becker Tanja L. In the middle of this year – more precisely from 4-6 June – “The Tire Cologne” will open its doors again. The leading trade fair for the tyre industry will then take place in Cologne for the third time. But again, the conditions are somehow completely different: If the premiere took place in 2018 and therefore before the corona pandemic, the second edition – actually planned for 2020 - made a very respectable “restart” after being postponed to 2022 due to the pandemic and did so again a step towards normalization, so what exactly follows number three? Our international colleagues at Neue Reifenzeitung spoke about this with Ingo Riedeberger, who acts as “Tire Cologne” director at the organizer Koelnmesse GmbH. According to him, the pandemic has acted “like a turning point” for trade fairs, and the event about tyres/wheels, retreading/recycling and workshop/vehicle service, which starts in Cologne in a few months, is no exception. Nevertheless, it remains an “issue driver in the global tyre industry”. And even if companies plan a possible presence there “more quickly than before the pandemic”, they still expect “the event to be revived”. With the same hall set-up as in 2022, Koelnmesse will have around half more exhibitors than two years ago, when there were 300 and in 2018 there were a good 530. https://lnkd.in/eVrbcx37
50% more exhibitors expected for “Tire Cologne 2024″
